C section dates. How does it work?

I'm nearly 33 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy. I'm due April 26th and still don't have a date booked in for my C section. I was just wondering if this is normal as it seems so last minute?

I have an appointment booked for April 13th with a consultat which is just a telephone appointment to officially book a date for the C section. At this point I'd be due in 13 days. First time round I had a vaginal birth so haven't experienced having a planned C section before so just wanted to hear from others. Is it normal for it to be booked in so last minute or have others had it booked in earlier on during their pregnancy?

I have a telephone midwife appointment tomorrow so I'm also planning to ask her what's going on as it's not very clear. Thanks:)

Hey, hope all is well with you! Don't worry at all, the c section can be booked late, mine was booked when I was 38 weeks for the following week! Waters broke the next day and I still had my planned c section. Take it easy and make sure you have support after the c section as it'll take sometime to fully recover! All the best x

I think with my first I found out 7 days in advanced because mine was breech. Maybe it's different with a more long termed planned one? I'm having my second later in the year and have meeting with my consultant f2f this week, hoping to get a date too!
Even with my planned first it was a "this is the date but it might not be depending on how many emergency c sections are happening or laboring women are maybes".

@Lazycatx ah thanks that's so reassuring to know. I always just assumed it's something they book as early as possible but if yours was booked at 38 weeks then I can see how it can be last minute but all okay! Aw thanks so much I'm defo planning for my family to be very hands on during the healing period😂

@SnowdropFox thank you for the comment! I just needed to know what other people experienced as it made no sense to me to book the date so late😂 I thought they'd book it in when you're like 6 months or something haha. Ah bless you, I hope you get given a date when you go to your appointment🙌

I went privately, planned section from the beginning but still didn't have a date until a fortnight before x

SnowdropFox · 17/03/2022 20:47

@babywalker56 did you get a date? I had an appointment this week and got mine for June.

niki26 · 17/03/2022 22:39

With my second they called me on the Tuesday and said the section was booked for the Thursday! I called my husband to tell him and he said 'This Thursday?!' I said 'umm... yes!' Was a planned section also.

All the best x

@SnowdropFox ah that's great news🙌 hope it all goes well of course!

I had a midwife appointment on Wednesday and apparently I had an appointment booked with a consultant for next Thursday and that's when I should get the date for the C section! It seems like they just forgot to notify me of the appointment somehow so hopefully I'll get it then🤞

I think it'll be for the 19th as that's when I'm 39 weeks on the dot but we'll see

I had two for medical reasons, and I believe we booked it when it was decided around 32 weeks? There was some toing and froing as they wanted it at 38 weeks but that was my eldest stepsons birthday so we wanted to avoid that. As it happens my waters broke nine days before the scheduled time.
Second time round I think again it was decided and scheduled around 32 weeks and this time I made it to the scheduled date.
