Hey

I’m 4w 5d into my first pregnancy and pretty anxious. I went out for dinner on Thursday and had a small bit of squab pigeon breast. It was about an inch by an inch and medium rare (partner thinks it was medium I am convinced it was pretty rare). Unfortunately I wasn’t aware that you should not eat rare meat when pregnant. So I happily ate it. I am now absolutely petrified that I will get toxo. I’ve ordered a blood test for today to see if I already had antibodies and a pcr test to check if the parasite is in my blood. My partner thinks I’m going crazy but I just cannot stop worrying. Does anyone know if it is likely you get it from pigeon? I wish I could go back in time!!

You need to talk to someone about your anxiety. This isn’t healthy or normal.

Hi OP, I work directly with large numbers of animals in ways that are considered very high risk for exposure to toxoplasmosis.... I recently had a blood test to check for exposure and after 15 years in my job I've never been exposed at all!!

Plus the risk is only if you become exposed for the first time during pregnancy. If you regularly ate rare meat before now then that would also reduce your risk of anything happening.

You'll be totally fine. Wishing you all the best!
