1st Trimester Anxiety

Does anyone in their 1st trimester have like... really extreme anxiety at the moment? I am overthinking everything and interpreting every single symptom or twinge as meaning something has gone wrong.

I think I'm naturally quite an anxious person but I had gotten SO much better in recent years. Ever since I found out I was pregnant though, it's the worst my anxiety has ever been! Maybe a combo of the painful wait to the first scan, the enormously high stakes, and the hormones...

Has/does anyone else had/have this? How do you manage it? Does it get better by the 2nd/3rd trimesters?

Yes I have this. In my first pregnancy it got better once I could feel my son moving as it was then an easy way to tell he was ok :)

With this one I’m only 6+4 so am still going through the anxious phase. The only way to manage it is to take it one day at a times. I now read a book before bed to escape from my own mind. It helps me sleep too and I haven’t had nightmares since I started doing that.

You’re definitely not alone, there are a lot of us.

Thank you! I've been trying to distract myself which is obviously going badly since I'm on Mumsnet Blush

Yes definitely I was very anxious. Honestly I would recommend not looking on here much and just trying to go with it. I read something which may sound harsh but helped me.. if something is going to happen it will happen, there's no point worrying or googling etc just got to go with it. Try and distract yourself with something non baby/pregnancy related, keep active etc. It gets better I promise xx

I'm 14w now and honestly it does get a little better but not much.

I was a nervous wreck, convinced myself I was having an ectopic, blighted ovum, molar pregnancy and there were would be no heartbeat on the many many private scans I've had. I totally get it!

Carebear99 · 13/03/2022 17:21

Everyone has said it to me and I sure don't Google stuff.

Good luck OP it is nervewracking! I am almost 16 weeks and still nervous, though getting better. Convinced myself it wouldn’t stick, the symptoms were fading (they came back strong lol), I wasn’t sick enough (hg last time but not this time) and I even bought dopplers to try hear heartbeats which I ended up returning the latest of. I don’t recommend getting one as it’s been so inconsistent it’s making me more nervous. Make sure to chat to your doctor/midwife, knowing they think things are “normal” helps. If I wasn’t having extra monitoring due to my last pregnancy id book in to an early reassurance scan for sure. I’d say the 6 week scan was good as there was a heartbeat which is a big bridge to cross. The 12 week scan was a huge help as he was moving all over the place, and knowing that really made me feel better. Good luck and congratulations!!

Mine is awful but I’ve had 4 losses previously. I’m 8 weeks now and just panicking over everything. Just have a horrible feeling all round. I have anxiety anyway so it’s definitely worse now I’m pregnant again.

I'm so sorry for your losses Ellie xxx are you planning an early scan or anything like that?

Yes I’ve had 3 already ! And all is good. My losses all happened before 5 weeks so I’m further than that this time but still nerve wracking!
