Currently 37 weeks pregnant, this only happened once today, but had anyone else experienced a shooting pain that went up backside then felt faint for a while afterwards

No but I've heard others refer to a shooting butt pain outside of pregnancy. Are you normally a fainter with pain? Have you felt baby move in their normal pattern since? Have you eaten something sugary since feeling faint?

Call your midwife for advice if you have any concerns.

No, never feel faint with pain, it only lasted very briefly so didn't need anything sugary

I agree call your midwife if any concerns.
It does sound like the baby has briefly put pressure on your sciatic nerve giving you a brief taste of sciatica. Usually sciatica is described as pain shooting up your bum. Here is an article on it.

I had something like that with my 3rd pregnancy at about 36 weeks pregnant

Felt exactly like a contraction so I started to pack my bags thinking it was labour starting and baby was going to be on the early side.

No idea what it was ( a particularly bad braxton hick perhaps or like PP said the baby aiming a kick at the sciatic nerve) but the baby was eventually born at 41 + 2
