How effective is bio oil?

I'm only 21+5 but my bump is bigger than normal (in most people's opinion ) I've got a pregnancy belly bar in, because i want to keep my piercing and I also don't want two big scars across my tummy if I take it out. However, I've started to get stretch marks coming off it as it's stretched to the max. My mum's bought me some bio oil to use, so I'm going to start, but how effective is it? Is it likely to stop the stretch marks in their tracks? If not, is there anything that will? I'm not vain or anything, but a little worried that the stretch marks are starting so early!!

unfortunately nothing will stop the stretch marks once they start - I am a huge fan of Bio-oil and it will ease the itching and dryness as your belly stretches and may well help to minimise the scars later, but that's about it - there really are'nt any lotions, potions or oils that will stop them completely - sorry!

Not at all IME.

Made tight belly more comfy as Cool has said.

SMs are inherited, cant think of the proper word, but if your Ma had them, you are likely to have them too.

Flames rising from your pants is a cool look anyway, a la Justin Hawkins.

hello me too, bio oil was great for me last time and i have no stretch marks on my belly, will really put it to the test this time as i'm 12 weeks and have a huge bump that i should be oiling already! also, i have a belly piercing but took it out completely last time, and it didn't close up, i can still wear rings/bars etc, although it was a little tight to begin with, it didn't hurt. hth

Didn't stop mine either but has made skin lovely and soft. Still use it in my bath as loads of people have commented that my wrinkles have all gone from face. Must be of some use as I'm constantly knackered and don't have time to do anything else!

PS I moaned at my mum about her passing on her strechmarks after MW said that's where they came from. She hasn't got any {so unfair!)

My husband has taken to stealing my bio-oil for his bath time treat!!!

I am using it every night and so far no stretch marks - I'm 27+2 now. Hoping that I won't get them that bad but I have heard that nothing will stop them if you are getting them. I guess vainly trying to stop them with bio-oil at least has the benefit of keeping my tummy skin nice and soft.

am 19 weeks and also have an enormous bump that is growing even as I type. Havent tried bio oil but am using cocoa butter every day and tummy feels very smooth...long way still to go though!

Hi Erie (same ante-natal thread).

I tried cocoa butter but DP hated the smell of it and I saw on telly that it wasn't very good, plus it's difficult to get out of the weird shape bottle. Tried bio-oil for 3 or 4 days now and oh my god it is amazing!!!

I didn't think it would work, but my belly bar stretch marks look fainter and my skins gone scrumptious and so soft! I'm hoping it'll help. My mum got stretch marks so I'll be destined to get a few, but I'm really impressed what that stuff! I'd definately recommend it!
