Changing unit..which one?

For my last baby I had a big changing table. A plastic one with open storage. I don't have space for it this time around. Plus I need a chest of drawers. Was thinking about getting ikea changing unit-drawers with the changing unit on top. Any ideas which one to go for? Could I just get a chest of drawers and put a changing mat on top?

I have the greyson changing unit from next. It has 3 big draws and a surround for a mat to go on top.

I bought a regular chest of drawer from IKEA and bought the changing unit to go on top from Etsy. Thought this way I can always take the changing unit bit off when it's no longer needed and still have the chest of drawers :-)

We didn't bother with a changing table and just change our son on the floor :)

We have the Puggle Prestbury Dresser and Changing Table in grey and love it. You can get a nice wedge changing mat to fit perfectly!

We initially were told dnt bother with changing table. For 2 weeks we didnt have one and our backs were in so much pain...
We went to ikea and got the basic one. It was honestly the best purchase! So practical and so much comfier.

Thanks all.
@LASandOtto what a brilliant idea! I'm not sure if I have space for the 160cm Hemnes though.
@SunnySideUp2020 I definitely agree. We used ours until it was falling apart. I wouldn't be without one. Those are the ones I've been looking at

As did we.

@QueenLagertha I only have the smaller chest of drawers and found a supplier on Etsy who sold the changing unit insert for on top. Still love it as we can always get rid off the changing unit and still use the drawers.

@mrscotton that is gorgeous. A bit more than I want to spend though. This is my last baby. Wish I'd invested first time around.

Changing mat on the bed?

QueenLagertha · 07/03/2022 15:42

@LASandOtto thanks you much. Will show DH tonight. Seems like a no brainer to me. Pocket friendly, practical option

We didn’t bother. Annoying having to take the baby up to the room to change. I just had a changing mat in the living room that I put on the sofa and then one in our bedroom to use on our bed.

QueenLagertha · 07/03/2022 15:45

@BlueGreyApple really want the changing table and need a chest of drawers anyway. we both loved it last time around.

Buy a chest of drawers and put a changing mat on top

Hugasauras · 07/03/2022 15:51

I had a section and couldn't have easily managed getting on and off floor in early days. We used a changing mat on top of chest of drawers upstairs and got a folding table thing downstairs with same. I prefer to be able to stand when changing when they're tiny.

Forshorttheycallmecomp · 07/03/2022 15:53

I had a malm 4 drawer chest of drawers form ikea and my (not at all usually creative) DH made a frame which sat on top of it - a changing mag say perfectly in it. It lasted three babies :)
