Sleeping on left side in third trimester

Good morning ladies

Looking for some advice.

I always sleep on my back so I bought a u-shaped pregnancy pillow early second trimester to prevent me from sleeping on my back. It’s been okay till last couple of weeks, now that bump is getting bigger I feel like when I’m lying on my left side (with pillow between my legs) my body is “falling” over my bump and putting pressure on bumps and bump is getting squished. Can you squeeze your baby?

A few times when I’ve been lying on left side I don’t feel much movement as soon as I turn over on my back baby starts kicking again. Could it be a coincidence or..?

I have a recliner bed so thinking I will start to sleep on my back sitting up on in a 30-40 degrees angle, would that be okay or shouldn’t you lie on your back at all?

Thank you in advance.

If you prop yourself up you should be fine :) I feel like I can't breathe when I lie on my back even for short periods so no choice but to sleep on my side. I don't sleep exclusively on my left though, both sides are fine. If I feel like I'm tilting forwards too much I position the pillow under my bump too for support.

I slept on the sofa. Flat pillow under bump and back of sofa against my back. Check with midwife as I wouldn't go on your back.

Same as pp! I’m almost 34 weeks and so uncomfortable with sleeping! I sleep on my right or left side and prop myself up with pillows to make it more comfortable. I’ve also started putting one against my back just because it feels better too. I’ve been told It’s okay if you wake up on your back but you should move over to your side when trying to fall back to sleep.
Definitely feels like a mission at night time moving pillows side to side just to get comfy 😂

You shouldn’t lie on your back as it squashes vital afteries.

Sleep however you like! If you sleep on your back and it makes you feel ill you will wake up anyway. If you can sleep comfortably on your back you're fine.

Tommy's have information on this that is useful. Sleeping on your back can increase still births so it isn't a case of you will wake up if you feel unwell.

I don’t sleep on my back, literally lie on my back for 5-10 minutes maximum.

I’m thinking of sleeping on my back sitting up in bed (I have a recliner bed) as I find sleeping on left side uncomfortable, can you sit up and sleep in a bed?

You dont have to sleep on your left side constantly really...i cant sleep on left so i do on right... they say its better on left but really whatevers more co.fortable

@K2012 To answer your question , I would think that would be ok as if you are at an incline you aren’t putting pressure on the artery .
