Thyroids diagnosed in pregnancy -anyone had similar

Hi all,
Maybe I’m thinking too much into things but I’m a worrier and I’m officially panicking.
So I’m about 8weeks pregnant. I had bloods taken last week which showed my thyroids are low. I need to have more bloods done next week and if they come back the same, I’ll be referred to a specialist.

  • I’ve googled and there’s a risk of miscarriage, if untreated could affect the babies brain development - especially in the first 12weeks as the thyroids are vital to babies brain and nervous system.
So I’m freaking out. Ive never had a thyroid issue before, the dr seems to think it may have developed from Covid. - another reason I’m worrying… I was Covid positive when I found out I was pregnant.

I suffered a missed miscarriage last year at 11.5weeks (baby stopped growing at 7) and I’m a little more anxious 😔

Anyone know anything about thyroids or experienced anything similar?
Thanks in Advance x

@Newgirl21 Hi OP, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid at 8 weeks pregnant and started levothyroxin at about 9/10 weeks, just had my 20 week scan and everything looks ok. I suspected my thyroid was wonky beforehand but my GP refused to treat it, I also had a MMC before this pregnancy so completely get your worry.
Did they give you your actual thyroid numbers, I'm just thinking they might not be too far out if they are willing to wait for more bloods before starting treatment, my treatment started the day the results were back and mine weren't massively out.
Try not to worry thyroid stuff is super easy to treat.

@ChinChilly your message has been so reassuring. Thank you so much! 😊
They didn’t give me the numbers, so hopefully it isn’t out by too much.
I’m sorry you’ve experienced similar to me, I’m sure following your loss you’ve also been feeling anxious. I hope your pregnancy is going well x x

@Newgirl21 hopefully your next blood results are ok! I'm under a consultant for this pregnancy because of the thyroid but tbh I've only seen her once and they just check my bloods every 4 weeks. I completely freaked myself out by reading similar stuff about brain development etc on google but honestly I think that is in cases where people's thyroids are really out of whack.
Pregnancy after loss is tough but it gets easier after each scan, keeping everything crossed for you x
