Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone had a positive story.
I'm 8 weeks pregnant with twins.
I had a scan at 7 weeks and it showed 2 pregnancy sacs.
One had a heartbeat and was measuring 10mm the second was empty. The Nurse didn't rule out that there might be something there and asked us to come back the following week.
I went back had a scan and there was a fetal pole with yolk sac and little heart beat but only measuring 4mm when other twin is now 17mm.
We are going back again next week.

The nurse told us to be happy that we have one that's growing nicely.
She did say that she has known little ones to catch up but I can't help thinking that it's 2 weeks behind so early on.

I'm petrified of loosing one if not 2 so I can't even be excited because of the unknown.

Has anyone else experienced this or anything similar ??
hopefully have a happy ending to.

X

Yes I had the same and the smaller one vanished they called it vanishing twin syndrome apparently very common but most people don’t know unless they get early scans to see it before it vanishes

Hi, I'm sorry you're going through this.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant with what was originally a twin pregnancy. First scan at 7 weeks showed two tiny babies, both with heartbeats. One measured 12 days behind the other and the size difference between them was huge. When we had another scan two weeks later, it showed the smaller twin's heart had stopped when it measured 7 weeks. It jas since been reabsorbed.

I'm so sorry this isn't the news you wanted to hear but given the size difference between the two I think you should prepare yourself for bad news.

I'm comforted by knowing the remaining twin has a much better chance of survival now, as sad as that sounds.

@Squiff70

Thank you for replying.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I'm sorry for your loss of the other twin.

As I said in my previous message it's hard to be happy for the stronger one thinking the smaller one might not survive 😢 I almost feel guilty.
It's so hard and sad, everything is a waiting game and taking each week by week.
I'm trying my best to be positive but also like you said I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst.

I really didn't expect anything to be there at the 8 week scan as the sac was empty at 7 weeks.
