Have you had a membrane sweep?

Did your membrane sweep work too?

I’m 40 weeks and had mine at 2pm today was told I’m fully effaced and 2cm dilated it’s been 3 hours and I’m having some discomfort with pain in my back and slight pain cramping too but nothing too bad.

I’ve heard sometimes this can still stop though but I’d love to go in to labour tonight

I had a sweep at 39+5 and was 90+% effaced and 1cm dilated. Had increasing cramping and lower back pain that afternoon and evening. Contractions started at 22 that evening, at 14:04 the next day baby arrived.

Had my first sweep at 39+3 then again at 40w and again at 41. After the third one I started getting strong contractions within a few hours and 4 long days later baby finally came!

Had one at 40 weeks, baby was here 40+2 - it did make everything intense quickly and super sore! I don't think I'll get one with this baby.

How are you doing @Janedoe95?

I’ve had 8 babies so have had a few Grin

The first one I had was with dc4 I was about 41 weeks and she said I was 2-3 and fully effaced, it didn’t work! She did another at 40+ 12 and I was about 3-4 and it worked straight away, I had him three hours later at home!

Had one with dc7 at 39 weeks, was about 2cm but not very effaced and my waters broke the next day, but didn’t get contractions so had to have the drip ( the most painful birth I have ever had Sad )

With my last baby he was estimated to be 9lb 7oz on due date so they gave me a sweet every week from 37 weeks. He came on his due date Smile

So I think it’s one of those things. They come when they are ready, but statistically sweeps do reduce the chances of you going over 42 weeks.

They gave me a sweep not a sweet Grin

I had a sweep and the dr doing it was really aggressive and broke my waters. Not what I wanted. Would never have another.

I had one at 40+1 day, 3 weeks ago!
Midwife organised my next membrane sweep for 2 days later as my cervix was still very high and I was only 1cm dilated - this was 12pm Valentine’s Day.
Sat down for a romantic dinner at 8.15pm that evening and my waters went, in 15 mins contractions came and by 10pm our little valentine arrived…

That was my 3rd and on my 2nd the sweep also got things going, baby arrived within 48hours.

Good luck 🤞🏼
