Hi everyone! Please help a woman out here and tell me how many weeks I could be. I know the obvious is 6 but I'm sure it's a lot less from recent scans. (Small gestational sack and nothing seen in the sac)

My last period was the 20th January and lasted 3 days. I ovulated 7/2-12/2 ...I had a very weak positive pregnancy test on 17/2 and it's been getting Stronger since.

Could I be less than 6 weeks hence why they can't see anything yet only the sac? Could I have got a BFP very very early??? Help!! Thanks xx

I think they count from either the first or last day of your last period I can't remember which! So that would be roughly 6 weeks. I'm sure someone on here will know x x

Sunnytimes21 · 02/03/2022 19:35

I'd say youre 5+2. Weak positive on 17th, at say 10dpo, so counting backwards...ovulation on 7th. Count back another 2 weeks and that is 5weeks 2 days

Nikki037297 · 02/03/2022 20:14

I’d say about 5 weeks exactly today. Positive on 17th very faint I’d say was about 7-9dpo meaning you ovulated 8-9th feb.

fishchipsandmushypea · 02/03/2022 20:17

This is interesting. I was just going from the first day of my last period which would make me 6 weeks!!!!! Which is why the scan isn't showing what it should at 6 weeks. Thankyou all.

So it isn't actually from the first day of the last period it's from ovulation dates ??

Do not go down the rabbit hole of trying to determine your own bespoke dating system.

Midwives will date you from the date your last period started. This will change at your 12 week scan when they’ll update your due date based on size. From what I can make out there’s no point coming up with your own estimates based on ovulation estimates. Medical professionals simply do not care so it’s irrelevant. Everything is so tiny at these days that the scan measurements can be out anyway.

Sunnytimes21 · 02/03/2022 20:23

Ovulation happens in quite a big window after the period start date, so you could ovulate 7 or 70 days past a period (obs an extreme lol). But, pregnancy dating starts pretty much 14 days before ovulation.

Exactly this.

Pregnancies are measured from the first day of your LMP. Trying to go by ovulation / conception date isn't really helpful.

Scans so early on are not helpful. You would expect to have a meaningful scan between 7 & 8 weeks.

Best of luck.

fishchipsandmushypea · 02/03/2022 21:02

@EarringsandLipstick I get that but it's just confusing why they go from that date as I wasn't even remotely
Pregnant while having my period?!?

@fishchipsandmushypea

It's because it's nearly impossible to tell when you got pregnant, even nowadays when women do track ovulation etc.

It's just simpler to assume a 28 day cycle, that ovulation happened c day 14 & then add the two weeks.

Later scans will adjust dates if more than 7 days out.

It's also worth remembering that a full term pregnancy is from 37 weeks. So women will give birth in a window of 37 - 42 weeks typically, and this is all considered essentially a full term baby. It's really not an exact science - we don't fully understand what causes labour to start, for example.

PurplePansy05 · 02/03/2022 21:23

Dating is from LMP eaely on, but if your cycle is longer or you ovulate late in the cycle, and sounds like one or both are the case then in reality you aren't 6 weeks just yet. I'd wait till you're closer to 8 weeks from LMP and have a scan then if you want to.

SouthParkCovid · 02/03/2022 21:28

Hi Op my my last period was 25/01 and I'm 5 weeks today. So I'd say 5/6 weeks?

Fleur405 · 02/03/2022 21:33

It is confusing but it’s the same for everyone. This is just how they date pregnancy I think so it can be standardised because even if you know when you ovulated you never know for sure when conception and implantation happened (unless it was IVF). So yes they add on this two weeks when clearly you weren’t pregnant!

fishchipsandmushypea · 02/03/2022 21:35

Thankyou everyone. Holding out hope that I just got the dates wrong and I'll see a bean In a few weeks. My HCG dropped by 20 but I'm hoping that was just a blip. X

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 02/03/2022 21:36

How do you know your HCG levels, are you monitored? How often?

fishchipsandmushypea · 02/03/2022 21:53

@PurplePansy05 it was just a one off as I was so worried after having 2 MC. Day and a half apart dropped by 20 last week

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 02/03/2022 22:09

I see. I'm so sorry (I had 3 MCs myself). I completely understand the worry. I would say it should be doubling every 2 days or so which you probably know about, so this to me is a more worrying sign than the scan if you might be earlier on. Have you more scans snd HCG tests scheduled? xx

fishchipsandmushypea · 03/03/2022 07:40

@PurplePansy05 I have a final scan tomorrow. 😣🙏

Have they not asked you back in 2 weeks just to make sure?? I have a few different measurements on my notes its all so confusing and wasn't explained to me well.
Notes say: sac size 7x8x5
Sac (mean) 6.7mm
Volume 0.1
Viability not confirmed

I really hope you are ok xxxx

fishchipsandmushypea · 05/03/2022 15:11

@notfeelingit1 you're sounds absolutely fine lovely! I don't have to go back as my HCG is decreasing and I'm bleeding now so it's just happening by itself. Try to keep positive as it sounds fine honestly xx
