Protein and Leukocytes in urine

Hiya all!
So, I had my 34 week midwife appointment today. I had my blood pressure taken three times, as it was slightly elevated, however the midwifes didn’t seem overly concerned, but told me to keep an eye out for headaches etc.

The urine test, came back ‘+’ for both protein and leukocytes. They have sent the sample to the lab to be checked. I was just wondering if anyone knows what this means? Or what they are looking for?

Thanks 😊

Leukocytes can just be due to contamination but

Protein in your urine could also mean that your body is fighting a minor infection. Your midwife may send your sample to the hospital to check if you have a urinary tract infection (UTI). If you have a UTI, your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic that's safe to take in pregnancy

Elevated blood pressure and protein in urine are symptoms of pre-eclampsia. I presume they will start monitoring you closely and frequently to see if this progresses. Not sure about what the leukocytes mean though, sorry.

Leukocytes can sometimes indicate a urine infection. Protein and high blood pressure can indicate pre eclampsia. Keep an eye out for headaches/visual disturbances/upper abdomen pain as these can also be symptoms.
