Heart palpitations

Anyone else experience heart palpitations? I'm only 12 weeks but the last week I keep having them and they sometimes take my breath away!

Online says they are normal and common because of the increased blood supply- however should I still be contacting midwife or GP for them?

Anyone else have them? Did you get checked out? If so what did they do?

It would be worth getting it checked out - especially if they take your breath away. Likely to be nothing at all to worry about and a few simple tests can confirm everything is ok

Hi OP. I had these terribly with DD2. I couldn’t cross a room without having them and I always felt faint and breathless. I had to quit work at 32 weeks. I was under a Cardiologist and had a 24 hour tape and an echocardiogram. They both just showed sinus tachycardia and they stopped after the birth. It was really horrible feeling so breathless with them.
You need to tell your Midwife and get properly reviewed.

I had this before 12 weeks. Maybe started from 7 weeks. I think mine was the fact I wasn't eating much red meat and greens or something 🤷🏻‍♀️ that's what midwife said could be causing it and also I had anxiety in the first trimester which I don't think helped! I spoke to my midwife and she didn't seem concerned so maybe speak to your midwife for some reassurance.

I was diagnosed with an arrhythmia during pregnancy. Being pregnant made it much worse which led to the diagnosis. Get checked out!

Yes I have it too, it feels awful. I had a 24 hour ECG as well and it was normal, I also have a minor underlying condition but cardiology has said they don’t wanna see me. I’m hoping it goes away after baby is born in two weeks. But definitely worth speaking to your GP/ midwife/ consultant in case it is something that needs looking into

@Spudina they feel horrible! Really causes me to catch my breath! I'll ring midwives in morning and see what they say!

Could be low iron. Get it checked out.

I had this, talked it through with the GP who assessed mine as being a normal part of pregnancy and told me what to look out for so I knew if I needed to call back. My iron levels were always fine but that’s something they can check. Mine ramped up once I gave birth for a few days and I had an ecg in hospital and again all fine and normal.
