Don't worry daisy - it's perfectly normal to feel like that, I know I do, probably more so now the birth is only a few weeks away. I sometimes feel a bit sicky with nerves at the thought of everything changing so much in a short while! And as for buying things and getting ready, I had nearly everything done by the time I was 5 months! It won't make anything bad happen and it helps you to get your head around the idea, it makes it more real, iykwim. Perhaps just get one or two tiny things now, like a babygro in the sales and wait until your 12 week scan (or 20 week if you have one) to get some other bits, if you are feeling superstitious about it.

Hi Daisy

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

Agree with Spackcat. The way you are feeling is perfectly normal - everyone feels pretty much the same way - sounds as if you are doing all the right things like not drinking and smoking and as long as you get enough sleep and eat as well as poss, you really can't do any more so try not to worry!

I chose not to buy anything much until the last minute (although I did all the research) because I'm superstitious. But everything was fine! You can actually manage with very few things at the beginning ...

Countingthegreyhairs · 03/01/2008 16:51

Oh, the other thing I found helpful was to buy a few pregnancy books ('What to expect when you are expecting' is good) and hook up with one of those internet pregnancy month-by-month sites. (I think there might be one on Mmsnet or the BBC, I forget which I used now.) I found them reasuring because they mention all the little stuff that you sometimes don't have time to chat to your doc about.

Daisy26 - even when I'd had my 12 week scan I found myself like a rabbit in the headlights when faced with baby clothes shopping. Until my 20 week scan all I had bought for the baby was a vest from gap and an antique chair from ebay!

"If you look here" you'll see I'd soon caught up.

(aside to surprisemum - that yellow/black/white pram book in your picture? the colour rubs off. it's not a problem, just don't think your precious baby has mysteriously sustained a terrible bruise on its little forehead like, erm, someone I know did )

Yes, they are good those sites! If you type in 7(or however many) weeks pregnant into google you get a really good site called i-am-pregnant.com (I think) come up, and it tells you what's going on at that stage of pregnancy; what your baby can do, what your body is up to etc. I loved this website when I first found out I was pregnant and bombarded my long-suffering dh with all the new found info I had discovered! ("did you know it's the size of a baked bean by now, dear?!" etc!) When you are a bit further along you can look at the 3d scans on the web too, for the stage of pregnancy you are at. It helps to see a baby image the same as your stage of pregnancy to visualise your own baby. Just type in 3d ultrasound 18 weeks or similar and something will come up.

daisy26 · 03/01/2008 21:03

thanks for all your advice-7 weeks is a size of a bean well if u all saw my tummy you would think i was mb about 3 months pregnant haha

Hi daisy. You sound a lot like me!

All these fears are absolutely normal. I had them as well. Am now 32 weeks and all is well. I still worry about something going wrong. Just take one day at a time.

I agree - it does feel too good to be true . I got married last Feb and now a baby - wow!

Your dream about not being pregnant - rings a bell with me. I had the 12 week scan and thought someone was playing a practical joke on me. Being pregnant does take time to sink in and its still early days for you. Just keep posting cos we'll always answer you.

daisy26 · 04/01/2008 19:57
