Morning sickness in second pregnancy

I got my BFP for DC #2 last week, after a few long months of trying 🥰
With my first baby I was really sick from about five weeks til 20. I was never hospitalised but there were about five weeks when I barely got out of bed. It was a horrible experience, but thankfully I felt much better after halfway.
I swore I'd never put myself through that again....... however here we are!
If you were sick with your first pregnancy, were your sickness levels similar for further pregnancies? Be interested to see if there is a pattern!

I feel more sick in this pregnancy. I'm 10
Weeks and my DS is 23 months. I think previously I could flake out in sofa but now I can't abs have DS to look after

ukborn · 28/02/2022 16:37

Only felt mild sickness through both mine, but I have a friend who had normal sickness for first, then really bad second time round (hospital twice and said she wasn't able to brush her teeth for nine months without throwing up) and I was shocked she had a third. Not quite so bad that time. I guess she did have pretty easy births so that's something.

More sick in my (recent) second pregnancy than my first. I know that’s probably not what you want to hear Flowers

I found that sipping on isotonic lucozade drinks helped and gave me a boost of energy.

Hopefully you won’t be as sick this time around and huge congratulations! Xx

detachablehoof · 28/02/2022 17:06

Ah this isn't reassuring LOL!!

I know some claim the old wives tale is true - you are more sick with a girl pregnancy? (I had a girl first)

Worse second time round. Sorry!

Roselilly36 · 28/02/2022 17:10

Congrats OP! You forget I know, it will be worth it. Who knows you might not be sick this time, I was more sick with my first, but in the evenings rather than the mornings. I had two boys though.

Wisemensay · 28/02/2022 17:22

Sorry OP I'm 14 weeks with my second and it's been worse. Had to be off work since I was about 8 weeks and barely got out of bed for about 5 weeks.

Nikki037297 · 28/02/2022 17:30

I was very sickly with my first and my second was waaaaay worse! So much
More intense and lasted much longer. It was awful!!

Flibbyjibby · 28/02/2022 17:33

Sickness started earlier this pregnancy but I was put on anti sickness tablets due to hyperemesis in first pregnancy so I am feeling much better this time! Please ask your gp for medication if your sickness is bad.

sarahc336 · 28/02/2022 17:34

With dd2 felt slightly less sick but only slightly, I did however feel more tired but that's probably as I already had dd1 running around. Sorry morning sickness seems totally random. There's never seems to be any pattern to it from listening to others stories xx

I vomited daily with DS until 17 weeks. Been better this time, vomiting a few times a week and feeling a bit better at 13 weeks. I think I’m less unwell but it’s harder now with a toddler, less opportunity for catching up on rest.

PollysPockets · 28/02/2022 17:41

I had severe HG for almost my entire first pregnancy (apart from maybe 6 weeks at the end) I couldn’t function at all, signed off work and couldn’t lift my head off a pillow- even with a cocktail of anti-sickness medicine.

18 weeks pregnant now with baby number 2, had mild nausea until about 14 weeks but I could function throughout, I was only physically sick once or twice all together. I did get pretty severe food aversions where I could only eat beige carbs but it was miles and miles better than pregnancy number one as I could actually eat and drink and keep it down (generally) and now at 18 weeks I feel fine with zero sickness/nausea- although there are still certain foods I can’t stomach but as long as I avoid those I’m fine!

I was fully expecting to have HG this pregnancy but it was a nice surprise to experience ‘normal’ morning sickness that other people seem to have! Lol Fingers crossed it will be the same for you OP but I think it’s just luck of the draw!

spangleswereace · 28/02/2022 17:58

Worse and went on for much longer second time round, sorry!
Also my second was a boy, first was a girl!

Change123today · 28/02/2022 18:08

Sorry sick both times :( for the whole pregnancy.

I handled it better the second time (6 years later) - first time nervous of medication etc but second time took it without worry! I also learnt small amounts of food little and often. Keeping something in my stomach helped. Still ended up in hospital on drips but not as often as my first! But as soon as that baby born sickness/nausea went!!

ChloeHel · 28/02/2022 18:11

Unfortunately I’m a lot more sick with this one than with my now 17 month DD.

I had quite bad morning sickness with her until 23 weeks but it didn’t start until 11 weeks. This time I’ve been sick since 5 weeks with hypermesis and now 9 weeks. Currently on my 4th batch of meds, signed off work and bed bound!

Don’t know how true the boy, girl thing is. I’ve noticed a lot of women have been worse with a boy!

But only advice I can give is prepare yourself just incase! I wish I knew I’d be bed bound because I would have cleaned the house more and done more things around the house the need doing ha ha! It’s currently a state and everything is on hold!

fairgame84 · 28/02/2022 18:13

Currently 7 weeks with dc 2 and all day nausea kicked in yesterday. I feel rotten. Im debating whether I'll be able to work or not like this.

With dc1 I got sickness from weeks 10-14 but only after 4.30pm.

SingingSands · 28/02/2022 18:14

First pregnancy - horrendous sickness, a real struggle.
Second pregnancy - no sickness. None at all.

PollysPockets · 28/02/2022 18:16

O also first pregnancy with HG was a boy, not sure on gender on this one yet but nub theory apparently says it’s a clear boy 🤷‍♀️ Lol
So I don’t think gender effects it but who knows lol

Sammilouwho · 28/02/2022 18:24

Definitely worse 2nd time round, I was still throwing up until the day of my c-section. 2nd was a boy, 1st was a girl.

detachablehoof · 28/02/2022 23:35

Regretting having asked at this point 🤣

I barely had any sickness with my first, though I was a lot younger, my daughter is now almost 12 and I am 11+3 with my second. This pregnancy is quite the opposite, sickness every day between 6-10 weeks when if finally subsided a little.

kravingabiscuit · 26/11/2024 14:28

How did you find it OP?

Nc546888 · 26/11/2024 15:01

Nothing first time, worse second time and worse third time. Just generally feel more run down each time (apparently could be age too??)
