7+5 weeks but only sac measuring 5 weeks

Hi all, I am feeling pretty devastated after a reassurance scan and I suppose I'm wondering if anyone had similar and still was okay.

I had a positive test on a cheapie on 30th Jan, when by my dates I could have been between 3+1 and 3+5. I assume it would have been impossible to test positive at 3+1?

Today I had a scan (when by LMP I should be 7+5) and they could only see a yolk sac measuring 9mm x 5mm.

They said I could have my dates wrong (think that's impossible) and they cannot diagnose miscarriage for another 2 weeks.

Is there any hope or is there pretty much no chance this is viable?

It is possible you ovulated later than you thought! With my DD I was 9 days late before I got a positive test and then when we had our 12 week scan her due date got put back exactly 9 days!

If you got a positive test that long ago, is it possible to test positive 3+1…. I tested positive 7dpo with my last baby and 9dpo with this baby, so I think the 7dpo would have been exactly 3 weeks, so you were 8dpo. A normal time to get a positive if trying to get pregnant and tracking everything. I’m sorry your scan wasn’t good it is possible it’s a blighted ovum where only the gestational sac grows and your body doesn’t realise for some time. They thought I was having one and they told me that’s what it was. I had a scan at 5 weeks, just a sac, scan at 6 weeks, just a sac but bigger. Told at this point blighted ovum and something should have been seen by now, went back at 7 weeks and there was my baby and yolk sac.

I had a scan at 6w and was measuring 4w. Went back 2 weeks later and baby had caught up so not impossible. Good luck x

Thank you all. I don't know how I'll get through the next 2 weeks.

Wish I could just know or start bleeding and let it be over 😔

Assume it's definitely blighted ovum as should have been at least 7 weeks given my first positive test was on 30/01.

I had a scan when I thought I should have been 7 weeks - I was told I measured 4.5 weeks and at an absolute maximum 5 weeks. I had another scan at 9 weeks (based on last period calculation) and this time measured at 8 weeks, strong heartbeat and baby shape on the scan!

Sometimes when it’s really early it’s so small it can be a bit off. I was panicking and everything so far is absolutely fine.

If you tested positive 4 weeks ago, sadly you're right. You would expect there to be a baby and a heartbeat by now when you would be at least 7 weeks.

There are reasons why this might not be the case and you could be viably pregnant but having been there, those thoughts would feel like reaching to me. There could be a benign explanation and had I the power to make it so, I'd wave a wand and ensure it but I know why you are assuming the worst.

The limbo is terrible. I wish you well and will hope for good news, if not this time, next but for now just strength and as much peace as possible.

@plum711 thank you for the positive story - really glad it worked out for you! However my dates can't be wrong because I had a positive test a month ago, so must be at a minimum 7 weeks.

Thank you, @ShowOfHands. I've had a bit of spotting today so hoping things will progress and I'll miscarry naturally very soon. I cannot cope with the nausea and feeling pregnant. One minute I'm absolutely fine, thinking okay I'm fine I can move on, then I get bouts of nausea and I'm heartbroken all over again.
