I am supposed to be around 8 weeks pregnant according to my period dates. 4 days ago i started to bleed so i went to the hospital and they did an internal examination, didn't tell me much they just said i would have to go back the next day for a scan. i went back the next day and all is the scan showed was the pregnancy sac or amniotic sac, the nurse couldnt see the baby but she didnt say id lost it and didnt say anything was there, i am so confused, i then had some blood taken to check my hcg levels which were 17000 and if they drop within 48 hours when they test again, its a sign of miscarriage i am so upset we have been trying for 6 months and we were delighted with the news but now we are so frustrated because no one is telling us anything. has anyone experienced anything similar? x

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time, Shelli. I don't have any experiences to help you, but didn't want your post to go unacknowlegded- also this way it'll get bumped up the list and someone helpful might read it.

What I do know is that pregnancy can be a very scary and surprising thing.
Good luck.

Shelli08, this is a terribly worrying time. I think 8 weeks is the earliest date for a scan and therefore it may be that a scan wouldn't show the fetus. Have you got another blood test scheduled?

Im so sorry shell you going through this. I had similar thing with one my of mine preg. I started bleeding at 6 weeks I went for a scan and they could only see a sac which measured at about 5 weeks. They said 1 of 3 things could of happened 1) I could of had my dates wrong and I was only actually 5 Weeks preg. 2)My baby could of died at 5 weeks so no further growth or 3) It was an ectopic hence why they couldnt see the baby. Sadly in my case my baby had died and I lost it a week later. But I have quite a few friends who this has happened to and they just had they dates wrong so it was too early for the baby to show up. I know it is hard but it is a case of waiting and seeing. The hcg levels are a good indication of whats going on. Regarding the bleeding I bleed in pregancy with both my little boys and everything was ok so I wouldnt worry to much about that, I know easy said then done. Keep us informed of how you get on. Sending you luck and hugs

Hi shell, do you mean experiences of hcg not doubling? Basically if they are doubling it is a really good sign and they probably wont do anymore tests or maybe another scan in about a week. If hcg rises but doesnt double they should carry on taking bloods every 48hrs till they get a more definite result, as ideally hcg levels should double but some women who have healthy preg thier hcg levels rises but doesnt double. However if the baby has very recently died the hcg levels may take a couple of days to start to drop. If your levels have dropped they will probably book you in for an erpc which is a small op. I have had two of these and each time they did the proceedure that evening, although I have heard of other hospitals giving the proceedure a couple of days later. But hopefully it wont come to that.
I really hope everything goes ok tomorrow

Probably depends on the hospital they might say preg fine and no more tests till 12 week scan or they might just keep an eye, not sure to be honest. How you doing, any news?

alsodoingtaxreturn · 04/01/2008 21:54

Hi, just read this and wondered how you are? I do feel for you, I bled around 5 weeks and scan showed sac but no baby so had to wait a week to see if it was just too early or if baby had died - I asked for blood tests but they wouldn't do that. The wait is horrible isn't it. Luckily mine was good news but I was very shocked. I'm keeping everything crossed for you, please let us know how you are xx

orangehead · 04/01/2008 22:55

Any news shell. Hope you ok

Hi shell, i had a similar experience to this but at 9 weeks, after a little bleed i had a scan which showed the sac but no baby, its called a blighted ovum, It is very common, it took me a further 5 weeks to actually miscarry after the discovery and at a scan a week after the first one we discovered the sac had grown much bigger. I hope this is not what you have but just thought id share my experience with you. I found it very difficult afterwards believing that i had a baby in there to find there was never one in there at all tore me up. I hope it all works out for you x x

Hi to all, sorry i havent been in touch i have been in hospital since friday, started bleeding heavily and actually had labour contractions, it was awful. I had a miscarriage sadly, feeling really low at the moment, had a dnc yesterday and came out of hospital 4hours later. i do feel sorry for all those people out there going through the same thing. the end result was i was 9 weeks pregnant with a 6 week old sac that stopped developing. There was no reason why it happened, apparently its very common. hopefully one day i will have a successful pregnancy, love to you all , Shelli xxxxxxxxx if anyone is going through a similar thing and needs someone to talk to, please add me to your msn its [email protected]
