I am 31 weeks pregnant and the heartburn, my dear lord it BURNS!

I've had it all the way through pregnancy but since I've reached this final stretch it's getting worse by the day. All I can stomach is milk. Any form of tablet or liquid I throw back up. Especially the gaviscon tablets🤢 What makes it worse is the fact all I want is fresh orange juice which of course adds fuel to the fire.

Any tips to calm this heartburn would be amazing🙈

I had this and being gluten free resolved it completely. It also worked for my dentist a few years later

Speak to Gp and get omeprazole prescription. It's a miracle and safe in pregnancy

missrainbowbaby · 25/02/2022 03:52

@TeethingBabyHelp I've had it and it makes me throw up😫

@missrainbowbaby oh no!! Did GP suggest any alternatives, Ranitidine for example??

missrainbowbaby · 25/02/2022 09:13

@TeethingBabyHelp basically just a grin and bare it situation and to avoid anything that triggers it. So everything😂

Omeprazole is the only thing that worked for me. Ranitidine didn't touch it.

Omeprazole. Virtually instant relief.

Until you get a GP appointment, you can buy Nexium over the counter. Nexium is esomeprazole, basically the same thing. It is quite expensive but will tide you over until you can get a prescription for omeprazole. I noticed in Morrisons the other day they had an unbranded version of esomeprazole, cheaper and the drug part will be just the same.
It’ll solve your problems. Would recommend taking until you deliver.

FirstTimeMama848484 · 25/02/2022 09:31

Just read you say it makes you vomit. I’d suggest persisting for another few days as it may be the acid it’s self causing the vomiting. Take an hour before food. Or try Nexium/esomeprazole

Hi everyone , I’m taking omperazole since 20weeks. Im now 32 weeks and decided to try stop taking it earlier this week as I started to get paranoid it would give me baby some colic / gut issues as I heard someone mentioning it as a possibility on a pod cast. I took it for most of my last pregnancy and child was very colic . Anyway I had to start taking it again last night as the heartburn was off the charts !! For those of you who took it in a precious pregnancy did baby have any gut issues and how long did you take it for ? Need some peace of mind . Thanks

Ranitidine worked for me. My midwife said milk worsens heartburn so It's interesting if it eases yours.

RebeccaCloud9 · 05/03/2022 15:05

Ranitidine is no longer available in the UK because of links to cancer in animals.

Esomeprazole not recommended in pregnancy.

Gaviscon liquid made me get the runs, tablets are so gross and make me puke.

I totally feel your frustration! I've just started with omeprazole and it's working so far, did you try it for long?

yorkshireteaspoonie · 05/03/2022 15:25

Are you taking anything like aspirin for blood thinning? That's what caused my heartburn

missrainbowbaby · 05/03/2022 15:34

@yorkshireteaspoonie yes! Omg is that a cause? I take 75mg twice daily x

Aaah that might be your culprit! It can cause stomach ulcers. (See NHS website) My midwife (I'm 33 weeks) advised to take it before bed which was just terrible. I ended up sleeping upright trying not to die! I now take it in the middle of dinner around 6pm (food either side) to buffer it. 150mg dispersible in water. Try changing the time/ way you take it and see if you get some improvement x
