Is morning sickness worse with second baby?

I had what I’d say was mild morning sickness with my first baby, felt quite nauseous but never was sick. I also had a few early losses and never got far enough to have much in the way of symptoms.

I’m 6 weeks now with what will hopefully be baby number two and having horrendous nausea! Not been sick yet but quite debilitating at random times during the day and even wakes me up at night. Had an early scan last week (due to previous losses) so know there’s only one bean in there.

Was MS with your 2nd baby worse?

I had HG with my first, and currently am pregnant with my second, and although I've felt sick for weeks, I've only thrown up once. My second has been so much better, which was completely unexpected. Unfortunately for the majority of people with HG, it can recur/be worse with subsequent pregnancies. Hope you can get to the GP and get something prescribed to help.

By me yes but i guess cause its a girl now...
🤢🤢🤢🤢

Mine was way better. My first I was sick every day for the whole pregnancy. About 6-7 times a day. The second I was literally only sick once the whole time!

SickAndTiredAgain · 24/02/2022 18:07

Mine was better. But I did start anti sickness meds earlier so that might have helped.

No symptoms with my first, this time around the nausea was absolutely horrendous, finally eased off now at 13 weeks, really feel for people who get it worse and for longer

Mizztikle · 24/02/2022 19:59

I'm in the same boat, 1st time around I remember nausea and tiredness and sensitivity to smells thats about it. This time has been Hell!!! I've had gas, trapped wind, nausea all day every day, fatigue, excess stomach acid and acid reflux. I cant tell the last time I was able to eat a meal, I can only eat a few mouthfuls at a time if I can actually stomach it with out it turning my stomach, I have craving for foods and then when I eat them my mouth tastes disgusting and I cant eat it. Im generating an obscene amount of saliva and spitting like a disgusting camel. I have no energy to do anything because im not eating so im in bed most of the time, and I've also had very little sleep in the past 4 weeks because of stomach issues, luckily I've been prescribed omezoprole which has worked miracles. I've reached my second trimester now so im waiting for the symptoms to go so I can put myself back together and start feeling and functioning like a normal human being again....sorry for the rant 🥴

Mine was worse with 2nd. Constant nausea with DS1 but never really sick.
Lots of being sick with DS2 and more that set me off!

PollysPockets · 24/02/2022 20:10

I also had HG with my first, and I’m 16 weeks pregnant with baby number 2.
In this pregnancy although I felt queasy for the first trimester and had huge food aversions (could only really eat beige carbs) I could overall still function and lift my head off my pillow, and only vomited a few times - unlike in pregnancy number 1.
Also my HG lasted pretty much my entire first pregnancy whereas now at 16 weeks I can feel it subsiding and I’ve had a few days with zero nausea.

ChickenRoseNugget · 24/02/2022 21:05

Currently pregnant with my second, sickness was worse than the first and I had it quite bad first time! This time I was sick way more and now I'm 19 weeks it keeps coming back on and off. My first was a girl and this one's a boy!

Bdhntbis · 24/02/2022 21:09

Mine was different - with first I felt sick all day but rarely sick whereas with second I was sick a lot but ok by 9.30am. Generally though I found second pregnancy harder because I had a toddler so couldn’t rest and was already sleep deprived before I was pregnant

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 24/02/2022 21:09

Didn't have morning sickness, or any symptoms other than a line on a stick, for DS1 or 2.

HogDogKetchup · 24/02/2022 21:09

I was sick 3-4x a day with my first. I got up during the night to be sick, would be sick between shampooing and conditioning my hair. Just dog sick all the time, it was horrendous.

I wasn’t sick at all with my second. In fact I was worried I wasn’t really pregnant!

fallhappy1 · 24/02/2022 22:18

Mine was better second time 'round (had HG with first and second pregnancy and with my current pregnancy) I was placed on medication on first day of nausea and also was very busy with DC1 (16m age gap between 1st and 2nd DC) so I had to get on with it. This pregnancy is also better than 1st but worse than 2nd funnily enough, received early introduction of medication this time too.

scrivette · 24/02/2022 22:28

Mine was worse with my second pregnancy, wasn't as bad with the third.

ShadowPuppets · 24/02/2022 22:29

It was pretty much the same with me for pregnancy 1 (DD) and pregnancy 2 (DS).

I was definitely more tired with pregnancy 2, but that’s pregnancy when you already have a toddler for you!

Dyra · 24/02/2022 22:36

Still pregnant with DC2, but there's been less sickness with this pregnancy than with my first. Everything else has been worse on the other hand. More aches, more pains, more discomfort, more heartburn, more fatigue.

SunnySideUp2020 · 25/02/2022 09:25

So far second pregnancy is much less sickness than first. Like considerably less... can't even compare!

SunnySideUp2020 · 25/02/2022 09:26

Some people say girls give you more sickness... my first was a girl so we will see if this is true and this one is a boy!

MissMaple82 · 25/02/2022 09:45

It's said to be more prevalent with girls, in my case this was true

annlee3817 · 27/02/2022 18:11

My first was a girl, no sickness whatsoever, this one also a girl, awful nausea
