Too late to opt for a repeat section at 38 weeks?

Hi all. I’m 38 weeks on Thursday and had planned to have a VBAC. It’s my third baby, first was planned section due to breech and second was a VBAC. Due to various reasons (mostly scar pain which I didn’t have second time around and baby expected to be 97th percentile and the risk of VBAC which such a big baby) I have decided that I no longer wish to try for a VBAC and want a section. Am I too late to change my mind? I’ve got a midwife appointment tomorrow but panicked as I know most sections and during week 39 which is only a week away and I assume I’d need to be signed off by a consultant before then?

No you aren't late and they wouldn't book it for 38 weeks anyway if there are no issues.

Thanks Oliop. I know they’re usually scheduled for your 39th week but I was more trying to work out timing. Seeing a midwife tomorrow but can she agree to a section or will I need to wait for a consultant appointment to have a section booked. If so, that then moves me quickly on to 39 weeks and I understand spaces for sections are very limited…!

As far as I know nurses can't agree to a section, it has to be signed off by a consultant. Are you in the clinic where there are consultants around? Once you see her, you can ask to see the consultant and ask for the sections.

My appointment tomorrow is at a different location to the hospital so there won’t be a chance to see the consultant. Hopefully as I’ve seen the consultant previously and had a previous section it will be a quick process to get approved…!

ah thats a bugger but hopefully you can see the consultant soon and they agree to it. Good luck for the birth, hope all goes smoothly!

My second was 2 weeks late so I feel like time is probably in my side anyway…!
Thank you!
