Measuring small?!

Hi all,

I am 19 weeks this week. I got my partner to measure my stomach and I am measuring 16 weeks only- is this common and has this happened to anyone before? Hoping baby will have a growth spurt.

I am very slim and so is my partner so wondering if that may be the reason why baby is smaller ?! Smile

Midwives don't start measuring until 24-28 weeks. Plus how does your partner know where he's supposed to measure from? I wouldn't worry and would leave it to your midwife. Your 20 week scan is coming up so they'll soon tell you how far along your measuring.

Yeah I would leave it up to MW to measure.

Thanks @ilovemyboys3 we measured from the top of my pubic bone to the top of stomach (well supposed to?)

Thanks will check with midwife!

Honestly I’m not sure your partner can do accurately (a lot of midwives vary in how they do it) and they don’t start measuring until later. How is he doing it?
I measured small during my pregnancies and babies were normal size

Thanks that's reassuring. We were convinced it was top of the pubic bone to top of stomach. Don't think he knew what he was doing but he tried haha GrinGrin

I dont get why you would get your partner to measure? Just wait for your midwife to do it and stop causing unnecessary anxiety

Midwives don't measure to the top of stomach, they measure to the fundus which is the top of the uterus, which they have to feel for first. I have my 28 week appointment this afternoon and I'll be measured for the first time. Too early and there's no point, baby could be growing fine but is still so small it won't be having much effect on your body, my bump has only really started rounding out in the last two or three weeks but my growth scan last week showed baby at 75th percentile.

Maximum I'v ever measured is 35 weeks, have babies close to 9lbs.
No reason to be measuring at home, if midwife measures you small or big from 28 weeks they'll send you for a scan.
