Spotting/bleeding early pregnancy - need advice

Based on my last period, I should be measuring 7w6d. Last Wednesday (7w1d) I woke up and had some blood on the tissue when I went to the toilet. It was a pinky/light red colour and not heavy, this continued until Friday morning but changed to a light brown on Thursday, again only when wiping and nothing at all on a pad over the 2 days.

I went for an early scan on Thursday in the EPU as I had some back pains and slight abdominal cramps where they measured me at 5.5+ weeks, said they couldn’t see any obvious problems but embryo was only measuring 3.9mm and there was no heartbeat detected. They have said that it could either mean my dates or wrong or that the pregnancy stopped developing around 5.5 weeks, and I am going back for another scan this Thursday to see if anything has progressed and to see if they will be able to find a heartbeat.

I haven’t had any bleeding or spotting since Friday morning but my anxiety is through the roof thinking the worst in preparation for Thursdays scan. I also have not had any cramps apart from the odd niggles that I was already experiencing prior to last week that from what I have read is completely normal as your body changes..

Has anyone else experienced anything similar and had good news?

No advice, just a hand hold as I am going through the exact same thing.

I've been googling and reading Mumsnet threads and found so many positive stories but I still feel anxious and in limbo until the next scan.

It’s awful isn’t it! I’ve read a lot of positive stories on here but obviously still expect the worse. The anxiety the last 3 weeks since I found out has been awful and now this on top 😫

It's such an anxious time isn't it?

Is this your first pregnancy? I already have a little boy but I found out I was pregnant at 11 weeks 3 days so I didn't have all the viability worries that I have now.

I've had the light bleeding exactly as you describe since Friday. I fee scared every time I go to the toilet!

My friend did and I’m sorry it was not good news. She should have been 9 weeks on the scan and she had taken a clear blue at 5 weeks which said 3+ so matched her dates then at the scan she measured 5 weeks no baby and they said either her dates are wrong or her pregnancy stopped developing at 5 weeks. When we added it all up there was no way was her dates wrong so it had to unfortunately be a missed miscarriage, she went back and again no baby and no developmental. She waited for weeks and nothing was happening she ended up needing some help to expel the pregnancy when she would have been 14 weeks.

Is there a chance your dates are wrong? Do you feel pregnant and feel like your pregnant is progressing? By 5 weeks I was vomiting most days. Not everyone does but that’s my way of keeping tabs on my body that it’s doing ok.

I did. Cramps, bleeding- red and brown. Early scan no heart beat...... ages just turned 8 now and has no clue of the stress involved in those early days! I could have written your post, I read it and the feelings came back. I really hope you are as lucky as me xx

My early pregnancy bleeding and cramping is currently fast asleep aged 8 x

Laurenf106 · 21/02/2022 21:43

Yes my first pregnancy! I didn’t realise how stressful it would be and that every little thing causes so much worry. I hope you have some good news on your scan 🤞🏽 Xx

I appreciate not all of the answers are going to be sunshine and roses, and that there are unfortunately some sad endings.

My dates could be off, I wasn’t tracking and had only come off the pill a few months before that I had been taking for the last 10 years, so my periods and cycles were definitely not routine.

I have read a lot that this early the dates can be wrong as the measurements are so small, so I’m praying for some good news when we go for our scan. Although I am preparing myself for the worst.

I haven’t had any sickness so far, just nausea and sore boobs which is still coming and going. Being 4 weeks out is quite a lot but I think it’s a lot more common to be 1-1.5 weeks out so fingers crossed x

On Friday when I started bleeding and had the scan I was 6 weeks 3 days since LMP but the sonographer thought I was more like 5 weeks 5 days (just like you). As you say the measurements are so small and so much can change in just one day at this point.

Laurenf106 · 22/02/2022 15:16

@HeyDuggeesFavouriteSquirrel it’s so worrying isn’t it! I haven’t had anything since late Thursday/Friday morning so I’m trying to be optimistic but it’s very hard 😖
