Bleeding in early pregnancy

Hi ladies,

Apologies as I'm sure there's many threads like this already.

On Friday I was 6 weeks 3 days (from LMP) and I started getting pinkish blood when I wiped. The EPU said not to worry as it was probably implantation bleeding. However, I am a worrier (lol) and I booked an early scan at a private clinic.

The sonographer visualised the gestational sac and yolk but it was slightly smaller than my dates and she couldn't find the heart beat or fetal pole. She said the most likely scenario was that my dates were off and it was all too early to see. I'm sure about my LMP but not exactly sure about ovulation etc. She said it all looked fine but to come back in a week when she'd (hopefully) see the heart beat.

I did feel better after that but I'm now on day 4 of bleeding. It's still light and pinkish, and only when I wipe / a few dots on a pad. No heavy bleeding or clots.

I'm not in any pain but equally I don't have pregnancy symptoms. The latter could be down to the fact it's earlier than I thought but also I didn't have symptoms with my first pregnancy with my son so I know that can be normal.

However, four days of bleeding doesn't seem good to me. I'm starting to lose hope and I'd love some positive stories to keep me going while i wait for the next scan.

I bled throughout the first trimester in both my pregnancies, just as you've described with spotting on wiping. I had epu scans which saw no evidence of blood in the uterus so proposed it might be coming from my cervix.

Whether that's true or not I don't know but I now have a lovely DD and am 14 weeks with DC2 with everything seeming well so far.

I bled in both my pregnancies. A mix of spotting and full on bleeds.

You're very early still so they won't see much. You can go to the NHS early pregnancy unit for a scan etc if you're bleeding. You can either be referred by your GP or self refer via A&E.

Mine were caused by a haematoma which passed by the second trimester and a sensitive cervix.

Spotting in early pregnancy is really common and if there's no pain it's most likely implantation or something like I had.

@Twizbe I phoned the EPU and they were very kind but said only phone back if it's heavy and soaking a pad which it isn't. It hasn't got any heavier but it also hasn't gone away.

You can always go back. Tbh with both mine they couldn't scan me until I was almost 7 weeks.

Before that they can't really see anything and unless there is pain there's not much they can do.

In some ways the early scan is anxiety-inducing as it's quite inconclusive.

I just wanted to conclude this thread by saying I had my second scan and it wasn't good news. The gestational sac hadn't grown since last time and it was deemed a missed miscarriage.

Hi I recently missed my period and found out I was pregnant, a few days later at around 5 weeks I started bleeding. I called my gp who said it was a suspected miscarriage as the bleeding was heavier than spotting but couldn't confirm it 100% she said test again when bleeding stops and it should be negative. I've tested again today and it's positive. What now? All kinds of things going round my head x
