Hi everyone, had a tooth taken out yestrday and am in a LOT of pain, had to resort to taking nurofen liquitabs to stop the pain, have taken 6 in total, 2 every 4-6 hours, it is the only thing easing it, paracetamol were useless, but now worried about baby xx

You shouldn't take nurofen in pregnancy but I'm sure your baby will be fine. I'd ring and talk to your GP about what you can take (or NHS Direct but I suspect they won't be much use).

Paracetamol is the only one that is recommended as such, if you need something stronger then you should take co-codamol. If the pain is extreme, then codeine/di-hydrocodeine is also OK up to the last couple of weeks of pregnancy. Obviously these are pretty strong and you'd need to get them on prescription from your doctor though!

Your best bet is to speak to someone in the know - normally I'd recommend a pharmacist, but although some are good, some just don't have a clue, so it may be worth phoning your midwife or making a telephone appointment with your GP.

Co codamol is fine - it contains paracetamol so don't take that at the same time.

Avoid the ibruprofen during pregnancy

If you're not having any improvement speak to a GP/dentist as they can prescribe stronger strengh co-codamol than you can get over the counter

Have you tried calling NHS direct or your pharmacist? I am sure everyone who has posted so far is right but for soemthing as important as this I think you should speak to the professionals. I know what you mean about paracetomol being useless. I have horrible earche and sinus pain and thats all I have taken.
