Hello, I am currently 29 weeks with my second child but also got diagnosed with T1D at the start of last year so has been a very different experience to my first pregnancy - just looking for other T1D mums to chat about this crazy experience with?

Hi @Mimi2022 - how high, and do you know how often? (Are you on a CGM sensor, and if so, what percentage of the time were you high)?

I spent a good 30%+ of the time high in the first trimester, I think it becomes more of an issue in the second (although still important to keep as tight control as possible obviously). Are you getting much input from your diabetes team?/under the care of a diabetes midwife yet?

I have freestyle libre. It’s about 10% of the time. But I even work hard for that. Or don’t sleep at night until about 2 or 3am.
i eat dinner very early and the values are in target until when I do the night levemir at 10pm then it starts climbing. Then it’s so hard to bring down. I’ve asked my nurses but they haven’t got back to me (I’ve emailed and called).

Hi everyone, I have just started the TTC journey. I hope nobody minds me asking, but how long did it take you to conceive? Iv been diabetic for 15 years now, since age 15 and I’m so worried about this. Iv had lots of
support from my pre pregnancy diabetic clinic, but can’t help but worry xx

Sallyh87 · 22/01/2023 21:59

Hi @Ashleigh457 , T1 sine I was about 9. On my second pregnancy. Times taken

  • DD1, age 31 took 2 cycles
  • DD2 (current pregnancy), age 34 took 18 months but was trying on and off

I don’t believe diabetes limits fertility. My second one took longer, probably because I am always tired with a toddler!

Good luck x

Ashleigh457 · 22/01/2023 22:54

Hi @Sallyh87 thank you so much for your reply! That’s really helpful to know, it makes me feel so much better and hopeful when I hear of others success. Congratulations on your pregnancy xxx

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 23/01/2023 07:39

Hi @Ashleigh457 I’ve been T1 for 21 years and it took me 16 months, currently 11 weeks pregnant, I was on hormonal contraception for 10+ years and although it isn’t the case for everyone I really think it was my body adjusting to that which made it take a bit longer for me, took my cycles ages to regulate and the doctor I saw didn’t think it was diabetes related at all

Ally1992 · 23/01/2023 07:51

@Ashleigh457 was diagnosed type 1 in July 2021, got pregnant in September 2022 on the 2nd cycle. Wanted to ttc sooner but the diagnoses threw a spanner in the works so had to work on getting the hba1c down first.

Can someone please explain how the appointments work after the 12 week scan? Is it every two weeks after meeting the obstetric team?

JurgensCrew · 12/05/2023 19:37

Mine was meant to be something like this, but ended up seeing weekly from about 33 weeks until delivery

Booking appt + first scan
16w - appt
20w - scan
24w - appt
26-7w - appt
29w - appt
31w - appt
33-4w - appt
35-6w - appt
Then weekly until delivery

Mimi2022 · 23/05/2023 18:16

@JurgensCrew Oh right. I have an maternity outpatient appointment that I believe they said I get introduced to the obstetrics team but other than that I have no idea what to expect. Said might be around 2 hrs. Anyone else had this at their hospital?
