CVS result wait time

Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light as I'm getting very vague answers from the hospital.
I had a CVS test two weeks ago as I am a mosaic carrier of a rare genetic condition that has up to a 50/50 chance it will be passed on. I only discovered I have this condition when I was 8 weeks pregnant with this baby, as my first baby passed away last year and from genetic testing etc this gene was discovered in myself and my baby.
The CVS test was two weeks ago today, I had a call within 3 working days to give me the amazing news that this baby is not a carrier of the gene! However the Dr mentioned that my chromosome results hadn't come back yet and he would chase it up. I was so happy about the results we'd been given I didn't think to ask how long chromosome results usually take.
I rang last week to ask how long it can take, and rang again today to ask if they have an idea, but I just keep getting told it can take several weeks.
I understand there can be a wait but I'm feeling so anxious at the moment which I don't think is helped by waiting for my phone to ring every day. Has anyone else had something similar, and how long did your results take?
Thank you so much for your help 💖

Hi there, I don't have the answers unfortunately but wanted to say I'm in the same position as you - I'm a carrier of a rare severe blood condition and because we found out we're having a boy, he has 50/50 chance of having it. The wait for the CVS test alone is so hard isn't it. So pleased to hear your results on the genetic condition at least were positive news ♥️ fingers crossed it's all absolutely fine for you.

The hospital have told me it would be a two week wait for results for the CVS so I would hope you will hear something very soon. The waiting is agony isn't it? We found out the baby is a boy at 8 weeks, am now nearly 11 weeks with another week and a half until the CVS test, then the wait for the results. It's torture. We made the decision we wouldn't continue with a pregnancy if the condition was found, so it's been really tough as we had two chemicals last year too.

Sending you a big hug! Hope me bumping this up a bit for you helps the post to get seen and someone with experience can give some advice 🤞🏻

Hang in there, hope you're ok xx

Hi OP! I had a CVS performed just over a year ago as baby's chances of chromosomal abnormality came back as high. I got a call from the hospital 3 days after the procedure with the results - all negative (baby is currently perched on my knee!)

I would chase your doctor for the results, have you got their number/email?? If not contact your midwife team. I can't see the results taking 2 weeks, so you should chase them incase there's been a lapse in communication.

Good luck, and I'm so sorry about your loss and the stress the gene abnormality must have put you through xx

grapevine45 · 19/02/2022 06:36

Also, good luck @HaresHoping with your results also xxx

Hi all!
I just wanted to update in case anyone comes looking for advice or experiences in the future.
I was getting worried as yesterday morning I still hadn't heard from the hospital about the chromosome results (will be 3 weeks this week since CVS). I had a routine midwife appointment yesterday afternoon when she just happened to ask if I'd received a letter from the hospital (I hadn't), luckily she had a copy I could read.
All the results have come back clear! The letter dates 9th Feb which is slightly annoying as I have called 3 times since then chasing the results and been told to wait - but just so relieved it's good news!
Good luck to everyone else waiting for results 💖

Aww @InthestarsO I'm so pleased to hear that all is well for you! Congratulations 🥳 😍♥️ what wonderful news. How frustrating that they kept you waiting 😡 but I'm really delighted for you. Hope the rest of your pregnancy is smooth and you can start to enjoy it now. I went for my scan today and found out I'm a bit further than I thought so hoping they can still do the CVS next Tuesday when I'll be bang on 13 weeks exactly. Am going to ask if it can / needs to be brought forward at all. Congrats again and good luck! Xx

Hey @InthestarsO and @grapevine45 - just wanted to let you know some happy news. We found out this morning our baby boy is ok 🥰

We were unable to have the CVS done as I have a retroverted uterus so was in the wrong position to access the placenta safely. I had an amniocentesis at 15 weeks and expected a 3-5 week wait for results based on what the doctors said. To my shock I had the call this morning, I'm 17 weeks and 1 day so it's just over two weeks since we had the test done.

We are overwhelmed but so relieved. Lots to process.

Thank you so much for your kind wishes and good thoughts when I was feeling very vulnerable and frightened ♥️

Hope you are both well and have a lovely rest of your week 🥰 xxx
