I'm being induced April 18th at 38 weeks and I've covered baby girls bag, she just needs an actual bag for all her stuff. Me however, i have the bag, i have the list of what I need but I do not know where to start.

I'm not packing yet, leaving it for maternity leave so I have something to do😂 but I went into primark yesterday to just look at pjs and night dressed and my god, why are they like granny style? I know labour isn't a fashion show, but also don't want to look 80. So where is best to buy nice looking nighties? Night shirts? How many do I need? I'll be getting loose cotton pjs for after labour. But since I'm getting induced I would like a few nighties just to last me just incase I'm in for a while.

Any other suggestions/places of where to get stuff would be fab x

Buy big baggy T-shirt’s instead if you don’t like the nighties. I know what you mean I’ve bought a nightie and popped in in my hospital bag but I don’t like it. I’ve kept the tags on so I’m hoping I won’t use it and I’ll return it 😆 I’ve got new pjs and an oversized T-shirt I birthed in with my DC1. Well I say birthed in it. It was on but when I “came round” after my 2nd epidural attempt I was naked. I have no idea why it was off 😆

Sainsbury's are good for nightshirts that are like long t shirts.

Although I always opted for black leggings and a vest top for after birth. Then thin cotton dressing gown for over the top.

I'm a big advocate of post birth full on incontinence pants for a couple of days and somehow feel less weird about them with a pair of leggings over the top.

What's your budget? DH treated me to a matching breastfeeding nightie and new dressing gown from Seraphine. I had a 5 day stay on postnatal and DD was in NICU / SCBU for 2 weeks, so it was nice to have something nicer to wear than my usual stuff. I also bought a set of two black nursing gowns that had buttons down the front - also Seraphine. I wore those for labour and delivery.

Other helpful things:

  • you will be given surgical socks to wear after delivery so a pair of waterproof sliders would be good for toilet / shower
  • if you are having a vaginal delivery, however many packs of maternity pads you have, double it!! My waters broke at 37+5 and I went through two packs before active labour even started.
  • a perineal bottle or a water bottle with a sports cap to squirt water underneath for the first wees after labour
  • earplugs and a hand held fan. Wards are hot and noisy, especially if you are on the antenatal ward.
  • a long phone charger - the plugs are miles away from the beds.
  • headphones so you can watch stuff on your phone if your induction is taking a long time

I guarantee you won't care what you look like when the time comes. I got maternity ones from ASDA but matalan have alright normal nighties in.

I was induced. I was in leggings and t-shirt and when contractions started I switched to a black nightie...wore that and once baby born was back in my leggings and t-shirt. I was home 12 hour after baby was born. Number one priority is to have something comfy.

Thank you ladies! I think I'm just going to have a shop around as much as I can (mainly for something to kill time while on maternity) and just see what I can get my hands on that is comfy and looks somewhat nice😂

I liked Misguided for nightwear because they doubled up as nursing tops/nighties too. Also to second what pp said, Sainsburys surprisingly have really nice nightwear too, I have a few really
comfortable nighties from there!
