Raging thirst in pregnancy

Each time I am pregnant I get so, so thirsty. Not "ooh I fancy a lemonade" but "oh my god I NEED two pints of water immediately and I will mow you down if you come between me and the kitchen tap".

I've mentioned it a few times to various midwives and been vaguely told that it's fine, so I'm not particularly worried.

Thought I'd put it before the collective wisdom of mumsnet and see if anyone could shed any light. Is it just a pregnant thing?

I hope so as if I have anything less than about 2 litres of water a day its not good - am glad you suffer too and mw think its normal (I always forget to ask)

I get ridiculously thirsty when pregnant and breastfeeding (although when breastfeeding makes sense to me). I guess it just means you are using more liquid.

Thirst can be associated with diatbetes though, but I am guessing if it happens each time it is your body's natural response to pregnancy.

I'm the same. Apparently dehydration can bring on BH too so drink and be merry (and fit from running to the loo too)

I was the same when pg and bf. I have to say though that my bump was Mahooooooosive, and it was almost all fluid dd was teeny little thing when she arrived!

I'm the same. I suppose it's to keep up with all the extra fluid, blood etc your body makes when pg.
