Recovery after medical management for miscarriage

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get some advice on here from people who have also gone through this.

I had medical management on Monday (7th) so nearly a week ago. I inserted the tablets that morning and by the evening I had passed a lot of tissue and what I'm pretty sure was the pregnancy sac (sorry for the horrible detail).

The bleeding seemed to improve over the next couple of days and I thought it would just get lighter and lighter. The last couple of days the bleeding has been quite heavy again and I passed what I think was a large blood clot today (again sorry for the detail). I've also had period like pains the last few days whereas the first couple of days was relatively pain free.

It's not completely horrendous or out of control bleeding, I guess I just thought things would improve not get worse! I was meant to go back to work tomorrow after having a week off but I've booked a hospital appointment to get checked out and I don't think I'll go to work after as I don't really want to worry about running to the toilet all the time to check I'm not bleeding. Do you think it's anything to worry about? And do you think over a week is too long to take off work? I know everyone's healing time is different but I just wanted to see what other people thought x

I’m sorry for your loss Flowers

It took me two weeks of on and off bleeding and passing clots (I kept being convinced that it must be over as there couldn’t be anything left, at only 8 weeks). Then I went back for a follow up scan and found that the lining was still too thick, so had to go home with more tablets and go through the medical management again Sad It did work after a couple of days though.

I also took a week off and then went back (wfh) and tried to work around it. It was awful and I don’t know what I was thinking or why I put myself through it.

I think two weeks minimum, don’t push yourself x

I was given antibiotics as well actually because of the pain getting worse - but it might not have been an infection, just pain as it wasn’t all finished

Thank you, I'm sorry for your loss too 😢 thanks for sharing your experience.

You poor thing having to go through medical management twice!! That's just awful. I'm hoping I won't have to do that but I think it's best to get checked.

And I agree I think 2 weeks minimum might be for the best. Initially I thought I'd prefer to be busy back at work but I think it will be uncomfortable going in whilst this is all going on x
