I had an EMCS 6 days ago and I was just wondering what is normal in terms of scar recovery. I was going to post on the postnatal health board but this area gets more traffic so hoping someone would be able to give me their experiences.

My scar seems to be healing nicely, although it is still rather sore and is ever so slightly weepy at one end (regularly temperature checking and no redness etc so I don't think it's infected).

I know they normally say 6 weeks recovery time, but surely it's not meant to be sore for 6 weeks? Just wondering when it's likely that I'll need to stop taking painkillers.. how long was it for you?

Sorry to ramble, just not sure what to expect in terms of usual recovery time!

Mine took at least 6 weeks but around the 6 week mark I had an infection in the uterus which was very painful tooo and probably hampered the initial recovery

Get some arnica and take it easier than you think initially. I think the more rest you get at the beginning, the better the recovery

I've had two btw and second recovery (with the uterus infection) was worse, yet the first recovery included an infected wound

Congratulations 🥳

EMCS five months until I healed.

Second one was 5-6 days until I stopped the painkillers. Then healed in 4 weeks ish.

I just rubbed a bit of Sudocream on the scar on a evening if it stung a bit and I was fine after a fortnight

Mine was elective not emergency, but I needed painkillers for about two weeks, then just had to take it easy for another couple of weeks.
Two years on I still can’t wear low cut knickers though as the elastic rubs on my scar and irritates it.

Hi, I had an EMCS in October. I probably took painkillers for about 10 days -- 2 weeks but towards the end I was taking less and sometimes just taking as a precaution ie before bed.

I am now nearly 16 weeks on - my wound has healed over and I don't get any discomfort now really.

I feel like I recovered in stages and after about 8/9 weeks I felt a definite shift towards getting back to normal.

The only annoying issue I've had is because I have a bit of a belly Blush the skin rubbed together and became quite inflamed so I had to get some cream prescribed from the GP which cleared it up. It still feels a bit itchy sometimes just due to it being in a hot place I guess. As above I occasionally put a bit of sudocrem around the scar and that helps.

Wishing you all the best for your recovery x

2 weeks of painkillers after which I felt really great. Another 2 weeks and I’d say I was fully back to normal. So 4 weeks in total. I didn’t start exercising until I got GP clearance at 8 weeks though
