Hey everyone,

Looking for a little advice, done a pregnancy test this morning and it's definitely positive ☺️ this is our first. Do we need to tell the doctor or self refer straight to midwife? I'm only 3weeks 5days so unsure if it's to early to be doing anything at the moment? Some people suggest leaving it until around 6 weeks?
Just looking to see what people would suggest ☺️
Thank you 🙏

It depends on your area. Google self referral to midwife in your area and see if you can do it that way, if not then ring your GP. I'd do it now as there are delays in a few areas so you could be waiting a few weeks to hear from them.

Are you going by your last period date? I booked with my midwife when I was 5w 3d but then it felt like a long wait until my 12 week scan! Congratulations Thanks

Massive congratulations OP and wishing you a smooth and healthy pregnancy.
In my area, we call the GP surgery who books us in with the midwife for the booking appointment. This is the first appointment you’ll have and it’s usually at around 8 weeks in my area. This appointment is where you get your maternity notes and your midwife will take lots of information about you and the baby’s father.

When I googled it for my area it came up with a self referral straight to the midwife team so maybe that is what I should do? I feel silly for asking these questions but as it's our first I have no idea 😂 we are very happy though ☺️

Yes going by the first day of my last period which would make us 3weeks 4days today.

Thank you so much. I have heard lots about booking appointments and how intense they are. I'm still very early days so I gather I will have no appointments for a while yet ☺️

I would wait until at least 6 weeks then fill out a self referral form online, your GP will tell you the link, or you should find it online. I think I filled out mine at 6 weeks and was seen around 8 or 9. Congratulations!

Thank you everyone, really appreciate all the advice. Having done some research it looks like I self refer straight over to the midwife's for my booking appointment and they prefer you to do this between 6-7 weeks. I'm guess this means I do not need to let me doctor know I'm pregnant or go through them?

When I first got my positive pregnancy test I phoned the gp and asked for a blood test to try confirm it- (had medical reasons to check)
I then just referred myself to the midwife. I was only 5 weeks when I contacted them and they were lovely. They phoned with a phone consultation for when I was roughly 8 weeks. They were not phased by me phoning earlier.
