So a bit of background, I found out I was pregnant again after 2 MCs on 19th January. Given my history my GP referred me to EPU for a scan to confirm a uterine pregnancy and prescribe progesterone. By my dates at this scan 2 weeks ago I was 5+4, the scan showed a empty gestational scan of 5mm approx 4 week pregnancy the sonographer said.

I went back for my repeat scan today 2 weeks later. This scan showed a gestational sac and yolk sac within it, she didn’t give me measurements but said approx 5 week pregnancy.

Whilst progress with the yolk sac is good - I am still unsure how I could be so behind. I have long cycles (32/33 days average but have been known to be 35/36 days) and I know I ovulate quite late - usually CD19/20. We last dtd on NYD which was CD 19 and though I’d given up tracking ovulation (my last mc was only September) I presume this was when we conceived.

Could this be a viable pregnancy, or should I prepare for the worst? To be honest I am feeling v miserable atm and bracing myself for a 3rd mc. I have to wait 8 days until next Thursday for a repeat scan. I’d just really like some reassurance or just honest answers of other people’s experiences Sad thank you.

Sorry I meant to add. Both of my previous miscarriages started with spotting around 5/6 weeks which gradually got worse. I’ve had no pain or bleeding at all this time, although not much in the way of symptoms. Terrible sore boobs which come and go but no sickness as such.

Realistically with a positive pregnancy test on 19th Jan, the latest you are likely to have ovulated is 10th January.
Based on that being your OV date, it would put you at 6 weeks 2 days today. So it’s not totally outside of possibility that you are just a bit early to be seeing anything.

However, the fact that you last DTD on NYD makes it extremely unlikely that you conceived on 10th January. It would have to have been before that- making you closer to 7 weeks minimum.

Based on this I’d personally be preparing for the worst, I’m sorry to say.

I’ve been there twice before and it’s the worst feeling in the world being in that limbo, awaiting the next scan to confirm viability.
There is still a small chance that things will work out fine for you, but based on your dates it seems unlikely. I’m so sorry. I hope I’m wrong. Flowers

Thank you @Rosebud2016 I appreciate your reply. It just seems so rotten if this is happening again, as this pregnancy just felt so different to the MCs. We have been TTC for 4.5 years, although I do have an 8 year old DS and he is feeling more like a miracle every day.

@Tisfortired I really feel for. Flowers My best advice, if this does turn out to be bad news again, is to push for a referral to a recurrent miscarriage specialist. They will be able to do a wide range of tests to make sure everything is in order and there is nothing specific causing your losses. They should also be able to offer you progesterone therapy amongst other things to help support any future pregnancies.
Keep me updated. I hope I’m wrong, and this works out for you x
