Becoming pregnant after a missed miscarriage

Hello, I very recently had a missed miscarriage at 5 weeks. I opted for medical management as I wanted it over and done with quickly. I took the tablets yesterday morning and by the nighttime the worst of it had passed with some light bleeding today. How long should I wait before doing a pregnancy test to confirm it's negative?

I completely understand a lot of people need time to heal emotionally and everyone copes in different ways with grief but I think for me that by trying again straight away will help me move on.

I'm just wondering if anyone would feel comfortable in sharing their experience of how long it took them to conceive following a MMC. Do you have to wait for your periods to go back to normal? My cycles were quite irregular and long (roughly 43 days) before so I'm worried this will still be the case and it will take longer to conceive.

I know it's a sensitive topic but any advice would be appreciated :)

You can take a test in 2 weeks to check if the hcg is gone of your system.

I was told in the hospital to let the first cycle after MMC pass but my GP said I could try again straightforward. My MMC was back in May. I decided to wait, I also got my covid vaccines in that month. After that, I got pregnant 4months after starting TTC again (October).

Hi OP, so sorry for your loss. I had a mmc last year, I had medical and surgical management as I was left with some retained tissue. I conceived again after my first period and am now 34 weeks pregnant. It took a while to get my period back but I think that's because it wasn't that straightforward and in hindsight I'm glad i had a little break of being pregnant.

Chemical pregnancy in January
Didn’t want to get pregnant again so wasn’t trying actively-
Fell pregnant in March
MMC that pregnancy in May
Periods returned July
Chemical pregnancy late august
Pregnant again very next cycle, late September. Currently 20 weeks.

I clearly get pregnant easily but staying pregnant is another matter. Fingers crossed for my little girl to keep sticking- I can’t wait to meet her.

I was told to do a test two weeks after.
Mmc in November, had two periods and now 5 weeks pregnant. And that's after years of ttc with ivf etc. life eh !!

I'm really sorry for your loss. Give your body some time, you'll be suprised how quickly it recovers, I was anyway.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's really tough. Another PG was the only thing that helped with either of my MC so I understand where you're coming from.

I had MMC in April 2020 (2nd MC). Tested after 2 weeks but still positive. Took about 3.5wks for all HCG to go. I started trying straightaway but fell PG again in 3rd cycle. DS is now 10mo and cheeky as anything.

I had a missed miscarriage 11 years ago. I remember going for my 12 week scan and being told the pregnancy had stoped weeks ago.I’ll never forget the look on the doctors face. I was heartbroken and had had to have a d&c which was awful.
I got pregnant again 4 months later and have the most amazing little boy

Sorry to hear of your MMC x
I had one and opted for the ERPC in October. I have had much longer cycles since but tracked ovulation in January and fell pregnant then. I was desperate to fall right away and it was really stressful waiting for things to go back to normal but my body clearly needed more time to recover. Don't put too much pressure on yourself xx

I'm sorry you're going through this, it's miserable.

I had an mmc at 10 weeks, it had stopped at 7 weeks. Period came at normal time of cycle 3 weeks later/2 weeks after mc ended. Conceived again 2 months later, so one period in between.

I've had quite a few early MC over the years with my last being November 2021. I think I've hardened to it emotionally because of the amount of times it's happened. Well put it this way I'm now 6 weeks 5 days pregnant and I went for an early private scan today and wasn't really that excited and expected the worst. I'd almost prepared myself for the worst. I did have a small bleed with this pregnancy the day AF was suppose to arrive. Anyway a beautiful surprise appeared on the screen with a lovely strong heart beat. The sonographer was pleased and said all looked as well as it could be for the dates.

I tried straight away after my MC's I didn't give my time to grieve it's just how I coped with it I suppose. It give me focus on something else. Everyone is different and you have to do what is comftable for you.

Hello - so sorry to hear of your loss. I had a MMC in November at 8 weeks (baby stopped growing at 5 and reabsorbed so was left with an empty sac a had a scan at 6+5 and they thought I was just earlier than I was but confirmed at 8). I had surgical management. It then took me exactly 3 weeks to test negative and then we decided to wait for one period... I ovulated two weeks after I tested negative/annual flow two weeks later. We then tried the next cycle and I wasn't hopeful but am now 6 weeks pregnant again and petrified... xxx

Hi, so sorry for your loss. I had a MMC in March which was surgically managed. I got a negative pregnancy test 3 weeks later and decided from May to try again. We tried may, june and conceived at the end of July after using OPKs for the first time. I found that my ovulation had changed after the MC. Currently 30 weeks with rainbow baby. Hope you’re okay and not feeling too bad x

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences & for your kind words. Really sorry to everyone who's also gone through this horrible experience :( it really is so cruel!

So happy for everyone who's said they are now expecting after their miscarriage, amazing news! Keeping everything crossed for you!!🤞

I found the whole process of trying initially so stressful and trying to work out when ovulation would be... then the pure torture of waiting to see if anything had happened 😂 I think this time I will pure less pressure on it and just see what happens!
