It's 17 years since I was last pregnant and back then I went to mothercare and babiesrus.
Where do you go now to look for baby stuff?
I don't want to do it all online, I actually want to see the cots, prams, bouncers etc

Im in South Yorkshire so can travel to Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield etc x

Mamas and Papas have an outlet store in Huddersfield that’s pretty good. John Lewis is good for a browse. Alternatively, there’s a lot of smaller boutique type pram shops x

Some Smyths stores have a baby section .

itwasntaparty · 08/02/2022 14:49

John Lewis, our best ones are local independents though.

There's a big shop called kiddies kingdom in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 08/02/2022 15:02

John Lewis? A big one will have baby stuff

AreWeNearlyHairnet · 08/02/2022 15:07

Smyth's at Meadowhall retail park (used to be Toys R Us) has a baby section. Not a huge amount of choice though, but definitely some prams, cots and car seats as well as things like mattresses and a few smaller bits.

I was thinking this just the other day OP. We used to have a Mothercare and Mamas and Papas in our local town, now they are both gone. Lots of places selling baby clothes but nowhere that sells actual equipment like prams, cots etc.

Carebear99 · 08/02/2022 15:17

Omg I was thinking the same. My last pregnancy was in 2001.

I can't believe how much prams are now!

Ruibies · 08/02/2022 15:35

This may be too far to go for you but we visited a great shop in York called Paul Stride. Nothing much to look at from the outside but huge range of prams and car seats inside, also some cots and baby furniture upstairs. The staff were fab, so knowledgeable and answered all our first time parents questions so thoroughly.

We've also been to a John Lewis but weren't impressed, the range was much smaller and the staff were pushy.

Even further away for you and maybe irrelevant but on the off chance you are ever heading south, Bumpstart Baby in Milton Keynes has also been fab and where we ended up ordering pram and car seat from.

Best of luck with shopping - I'm like you and wanted to see everything in person rather than online and it's been hard to find shops that are open and reasonable distance from us!

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely go to kiddies kingdom and there's a mamas at papas at next at meadowhall.
I wasn't sure if smyths had much babies wise. Im a bit out of the loop with DS being 17!
@Carebear99 they do mothercare prams at boots online which are cheaper and online4baby has cheap ones as well.
My pram for DS was £250 for a full travel system from mothercare. I went past an independent shop last week and they had a pram for £1075! Shock

Thank you @fairgame84 I don't mind paying a bit more for a pram but I'll look at all the suggestions on here if I make it to the end of this pregnancy. As it is over convinced myself it isn't going to be successful. 9 weeks at the moment

yorkshireteaspoonie · 08/02/2022 16:03

I'm in York and bought from both Paul stride and kiddies kingdom. Both are good for deals on 'travel systems' and looking at prams in person and they stock different ranges so not the same things in two different places.

Kiddies kingdom have a range of next to me cots and 'proper' cots to look at along with nursing Chairs, changing tables and furniture for you to view in person (Paul stride don't have the furniture side) both have good websites you can look at first to see what they stock brand wise.

Newbie and me in Leeds were good for prams but nothing I hadn't seen in the other two shops

FrangipanFlower · 08/02/2022 16:05

If you spot a pram you like I’d look on eBay or Facebook market place for second hand. The market is flooded with them and you’ll get a bargain!
