12 weeks pregnant with twins!

To my shock at 10 weeks I found out I have two little heartbeats in my belly- not one! I already have a son who will be 3 around the twins birth. I'm in shock, twins don't run in either side of the family. I received some odd comments from some 'friends' about this. 'Oh god I would die if I were having twins' 'you'll never cope' etc... I'd say I've about gotten over it now but still find it so strange people comment stuff like that without thinking about your feelings. Other mummies with twins... how did you cope? I have a scan in a few days to find out if they're di/di or mono? It's all new to me so bear with ☺️

You'll hear all sorts of negative shite. Mainly because it's in human nature to act a bit jealous and shitty to someone who has something they can not.

Twins are amazing. Absolutely amazing. Ours have just turned two.

Congratulations 🎉

chillimilli · 07/02/2022 21:29

Awwww wooowwww! Many many congrats ! How exciting ! 💜💜💜

neverornow · 07/02/2022 21:31

I don't have twins but wanted to say congratulations 🎉 and to ignore the negativity! I'm sure you will be absolutely great!

ThirdElephant · 07/02/2022 21:34

Ooh, congratulations! I've heard that they sometimes sleep better than singles because you can put them in next to each other and they like it better that way. Fingers crossed that they're easy for you.

Best of luck!

ReadySteadyTwins · 07/02/2022 21:37

Search "twins" on here OP.

You'll read everything you need to know xx

katiekatharine · 07/02/2022 21:39

Just ignore the jealous people or reply with, "double the cuddles" or "double the love"
You'll get lots of, "you've got your hands full" too 😍
Congratulations!

I love having twins it's bloody amazing even though I've been up all night with them! 😬Whenever people say to me how awful they think having twins would be I tell Them I find it a breeze having twins, that my hands might be full my heart is fuller, that it isn't about "coping" it's just normal parenting (just a bit more relentless)
Enjoy it - I'd have twins again in a heartbeat if it could x

I've nearly two year old twins, and they are amazing!
So lovely to see them playing and giggling together.

ellesbellesxxx · 08/02/2022 06:38

Congratulations! Twins are the best! Ours are almost five and adore each other.
Find out if you have a local twins group, to meet other twin mums. Investigate twins trust xx

claracluck1978 · 08/02/2022 07:16

Congratulations!

Ours are 8 now and awesome.

Be prepared to hear 'double trouble', 'you've got your hands full' and 'are they natural'(!) eleventy billion times by the time you celebrate their first birthday!

Congratulations... when I was in shock after my first scan with my DTs I phoned my Mum. Her reaction (later apologised for) was "Oh no, Oh no... that's going to be soooo hard"!

DS was 2 and a half when the girls were born, and it was a full on first year of their life, but manageable, and I wouldn't change it for the world.Girls always had company and even now (despite teenage bickering) have each other's backs and spend time doing stuff together at home. They are now 14 (and DS17)...

Donimo · 08/02/2022 07:36

Congratulations. I am 16 weeks pregnant with identical twins (sharing 1 placenta). I have a daughter who is the same age as your son. I cannot comment on what its like when they are here but I am sure we will cope.

I am struggling with negative experiences of maternity care at the moment. As all I get off medical professionals is how risky the pregnancy is. But I did have a lot of complications with my daughter (preeclampsia and obstetric cholestasis leading to a crash c section) so think all of that plus the twin pregnancy scares them. But I've been referred to fetal medicine at my regional hospital for specialist monitoring and will have fortnightly scans there. I have my first appointment there next week so hoping the maternity care will be better from then on.

How are you feeling at the moment? I am finding the twin pregnancy more difficult than a single pregnancy (but not sure if that's cause I now have a 2 year old to take care of as well!!)

Rrrob · 08/02/2022 07:36

Congratulations!! The twin club is a very special one. DTs are 21 months now and bring me so much joy. You will be absolutely fine :)

MissSmiley · 08/02/2022 07:37

I had a 2yo and a 4yo when mine were born, they were my easiest babies, very strict routine after winging it with the first two, twins are 14 now and I love my teens but it was hard work when they were all tiny, do you have much support from family? Truly a blessing though, congratulations!

Yay! Congratulations! I have 22 month old twins and feel so blessed. Join your local twin group now for support and advice :)

playingdevilsavocado · 15/03/2022 09:20

I found twin pregnancy very tough (had an older singleton - similar age gap to you) but since birth they have been an incredible blessing. Ignore any unhelpful comments.
Good advice to join your local twins/multiples group soonish for advice (Look up TAMBA) xxx

irishfarmer · 15/03/2022 11:00

I wouldn't worry too much about what people say, they are speaking before thinking! I was pregnant with twins on this pregnancy but lost 1 at 8 weeks. I just wanted to say about it running in the family, I said to the sonographer there are no twins in the family, and she said it has to start somewhere! Mine were non identical so I just released two eggs that month

Clockbookbeast · 15/03/2022 11:43

Congratulations. I have teenage twins and I'd say it's not been easy but worth it. Like you I have an older singleton too.
The best advice I got was from a midwife who had had twins herself. She said don't listen to mums of singletons it will only upset /frustrate you. You have to do what suits you and your family to get through it. The things that I found useful were :
Twins sleeping in same cot they settled each other, as it's difficult to rock two to sleep,
Strict routine (wake them to feed together),
Get everyone dressed before coming downstairs or it never happens,
A sling was great one in sling, one in arms and a spare hand for older dc,
I used a bouncy chair to keep them upright after feeds (need to sit with them if they are technically to young for them)
The hardest time for me was 9-12 months as it was winter (lots of snowed in days), they are heavy but not walking and it was hard to get out at times. So I always had everything ready to leave the house so we could just get out and destress if needed. And remember on those hard days it will pass and there's more good day than bad.
And be prepared to be stopped a hundred times when out being asked if they are twins /double trouble etc we made it into a game and Dc1 counted how many people stopped us, great way to learn numbers ! 🤣

Donimo · 15/03/2022 18:01

Congratulations I am also expecting identical twin girls!

Thank you for the tips @Clockbookbeast

BunnieMilk · 16/03/2022 15:15

Thank you everyone for the support 💖

And @Clockbookbeast thank you for the advice! I've screenshot your comment to keep on my phone if I need to look back at it. It's true I remember when my son was a newborn and so many mums would give me advice- which was great! But this time round I'm ignoring the comments from mums that haven't had twins as I feel it only puts me down. All I keep hearing is 'better you than me' 🙄 but yeah, it's going to be a task and I'm probably going to struggle at times- just like all parents do. But that's life! And I'm exited for the journey x
