Potentially 6 weeks plus 4 and having and early scan tomorrow. Anyone else had a scan at 6 weeks?

Good morning ladies

I'm potentially 6 weeks 4 days tomorrow going from my ovulation day and first bfp at 8dpo. Im Booked in for a private scan tomorrow and wondered about other people's thoughts on early private scans.

I have a history of MC and had a small bleed with this pregnancy the day AF was suppose to arrive. So i booked in for the earliest appointment possible.

EPU did offer to see me but later on this week but I booked in for a private scan instead earlier. Not sure if that was the right decision or not either.

Private scans are fine especially if you are anxious.
I had them before in my previous pregnancy. Always good for reassurance.
However you are quite early on so it is kinda hit or miss. If you are a couple of days out you might not have much to see and it s normal. But I hope you see your little bean and a HB!

Good luck!
Keep us posted

At my 5w5d scan I saw the heartbeat but that's really early I understand. I've actually been forward dated by 2 days since then so I was likely 6w then.

I'm 9w1d now

I had a private early scan, it turned out I was just over 5 weeks pregnant and we couldn't see the heartbeat but I was glad everything was in the right place and thought well, what will be will be. Didn't have another scan until 12 weeks and all was well. In conclusion, I think early scans are fine but they're no guarantee just like anything in life!

I had an early scan at seven weeks exactly. Saw the fluttering heartbeat, the vaguely baby shaped smudge, and the circle that becomes the placenta. They were able to see enough to tell me bubba looked healthy so far. They measure baby, preplacenta, and gestational sack and check heartbeat is nice and fast.

On average the basic heart develops in the fifth week so if you've got your dates right you're likely to see one, but not always as everyone develops at different rates.

I was in a similar position to you, know how hard it is.

We decided to go with 8 weeks. Chances with a heart beat with everything being fine increase markedly and i worried with an earlier scan i may panic unnecessarily about not seeing a heartbeat, including if my dates are even slightly out.

I hope it goes well whatever you decide.

I had a scan at 6 weeks but it was with the nhs as I had had some bleeding and cramping. It was very clear and they managed to show me a tiny fluttering heart beat. It was very reassuring and was so interesting to see what the baby looked like so early. I'm now 16+5. If I was ever to have another baby I would definitely pay for an early scan just for the extra reassurance!Smile

Good luck with your scan today @Jayjane79

I had epu scans in both my pregnancies due to bleeding. In this pregnancy I was 6+1 and saw a heartbeat no problem. In my first it was at around 7 weeks and they had to do an internal scan to see the heartbeat, just due to positioning.

I personally wouldn't get a private scan as I worry that they can give false reassurance - most will only tell you if there's a heartbeat or not and not pick up any other issues. I also think conceptually they're a bit predatory... But I appreciate that that's a personal choice and wouldn't want to sway anyone else's decision.

Measuring 6 weeks and 5 days and heart beat was nice and strong. Just the one in there ☺ looks like a little caterpillar lol.
