is this pain nornal?

Hi all, I had contractions last week at 32 + 3 and was given tablets to stop them. Since then I have been in pain with braxton hicks. Last night and all day today I have been wreching and in a lot of pain. I feel very faint and am just wondering if this is normal? Im fed up now and need help!!

Sorry loopielou, no experience of this. I'd say you need to call your midwife, but I'm just bumping for you really.

Thanks for the reply! I called my midwife and got put through to the hospital and kept getting passed from person to person until I was given yet another number to call and its constantly engaged (SP?)

any joy with getting through to a midwife at the hospital yet? If not then either give your local doctor a call and see if you can be seen by them, or failing that I'd be inclined to pop up to the hospital. You shouldn't be in a lot of pain, and it makes sense to get it checked out.

I agree, call your doctor.
I'm not suggesting you should be particularly worried but I guess it'll be even harder to get hold of anyone tomorrow, best to put your mind at rest.

I seem to be a bit better today. Got told that because I have had a few operations on my ovaries that the tissues on my tummy are less willing to stretch and thats what is causing me pain.

Loopielou, this is exactly what i have been experiencing since 32 weeks, am now 36 and still not gone into labour even though has felt like it for past few weeks. Was given a 'patch' to delay labour and steroid to mature the baby's lungs in case she came too soon. That was 3 weeks ago and am now out of hospital but still getting those pains with contractions as well as back pain without. Don't really know what's happening just a very protacted early labour i suppose but it's not much fun . Good luck and if i were you i would get them to have a proper look to check you're not actually dilating or anything.

Hi readinginbed, I seen my midwife and she had a quick feel of my tummy but the same night I ended up in hospital with such bad pains. The dr's and midwifes are still telling me that its my tissues that are not willing to stretch. Im only just past 33 weeks but just want to have this baby at 37 weeks so I can stop being in so much pain all the time. My partner is very worried and its getting to the point that im telling him im fine when really im struggling. I dont want to worry him anymore.

god it sounds really hard, poor you . I don't see why they shouldn't induce you at 37 weeks. Keep making a fuss till they do something - i've found sometimes it depends on which doctor you see, some of them are great but others clearly didn't believe i was in that much pain! I had co-drydamol for the pain and it really helped, and since they prescribed it, it can't be harmful in pregnancy.

Hi Loopielou, I'm new to mumsnet but read your message and had to answer. I have been in pain since 6 weeks due to a lap and dye and ovarian drilling to remove cysts. I can relate to the awful pain, but you need to keep making a fuss and demand to be seen. If your midwife is no help and the hospital are reluctant to do anything speak to your doctor and explain. Are you under a consultant? Can you ask for a referral? Keep shouting and stamping your feet - make your partner do this too! Good luck. Hope you and baby are ok.

I have just moved to England from Edinburgh less than a month ago so my midwife is still getting to know me. In edinburgh I was just seen by my midwife and told just to take things easy. This is the same thing my new midwife and dr are telling me. Being honest I am in so much pain I have no fight left in me to ask for anymore help. I have been told to take co-codomol which is not helping so I dont take it anymore. I suffer from IBS so it bungs me up even more.
Im not under a consultant and dont know what else to do really. Some days are better than others with the pain but most days its unbearable. Thanks for your support in this just wish midwife and drs were like this!

So sorry you're in this state. If you aren't getting any support, when you are feeling your worst, day or night, get your partner to take you to A&E. Your partner will be able to stand up for you- he's worried and will be able to do something constructive. By going to A&E you will be seen by a dr, hopefully given some pain relief that works, and your midwife/consultant whoever is looking after you will not be able to fob you off the same. In a worst case scenario you might have to go back and do the A&E thing again. Please don't suffer, don't wait for the system, kick up a fuss and make them help you!
