When a sweep works, how long does it take?

Now I know they often don't. I had 2 sweeps with DD1. 1st defo didn't do anything and she was born 4 days after the 2nd. I'm due to have a sweep for DD2 on Tuesday. No one thinks it is going to work, and I'm booked in for an induction 3 days later. But, what I'm asking is, if it works, how long until proper labour starts? I appreciate that you never know - labour might have started anyway - but how often does it happen within say 24 hours? 48 hours?

Just depends on the person. There's no set time it'll take to kick in if it's successful.

Took less than 48 hours with my firstborn. But the midwife did an amazing sweep, it really hurt. The second time it didn’t work but the midwife did an awful job. I could massively tell the difference. GL!

With my second... had a sweep in the morning, waters broke at 11pm and baby born at 5am. My first... had 2 sweeps and then needed an induction

I had a sweep at 1pm at 38+1. I woke up at 5am the following morning with contractions and DS was born less than 4 hours later.

@TataMamma yes I was quite shocked , getting a call few hours later to let me know they were on their way to hospital. Didn't work for me at all thou , I had 2 and still had to go in to be induced .

1st sweep didn’t work, then went for a 2nd and DD was born 24 hours after. However, I did also have sex that day to try speed things up, then lost my mucus plug instantly! So not sure if it was the sweep or sex?! Haha.

Sweep on the Tuesday at 38 weeks. Contractions started that afternoon but were bearable and infrequent, probably 4 to 6 an hour. Started to increase the weds and by 2am Thurs was in full labour. Baby born 7am the Thursday

I had two with dd1 and the second worked straight away (we had got the bus to the hospital for the sweep and we got a lift home because I already couldn't face it), I can't remember if I had four or five (!) with dd2, but the one that worked worked straight away.
