Agonising stomach pain and trapped gas

I've been suffering with pain that stops me in my tracks every time I eat or drink.

It's under my ribs where my stomach is, I have taken omiprozole and rennie deflatine which has done nothing.

I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I'm starting to struggle to eat and drink.

Has anyone else suffered? I'm worried my baby will be harmed or there is something wrong. The pain is unbearable and my stomach is swollen. I'm passing very small amounts of gas but even that isn't a relief.

Help?!

Maybe a silly question but are you constipated?

endofagain · 06/02/2022 04:29

Constipation was my first thought too. It can be a real problem at this stage. It certainly was for me.
Avoid stuff that creates blockages like bran and try porridge, stewed fruit and vegetable soup. Loads of peppermint and fennel tea.

Regular movicol could be the answer.

Having said all that you should speak to your gp just to exclude anything else.

QuantumHypothesis · 06/02/2022 05:19

You need to speak to your gp, midwife or 111. Today.

If it feels like you're being inflated from the inside, or that your rib cage is being squeezed in a vice, or if it radiates to your back and shoulders it might be gallbladder attacks which are agonising.
Second getting this checked out.

Agree you should see doctor but have you tried lying on your back and hugging you knees as a way to release the wind?

firsttime37 · 06/02/2022 06:02

Also try to drink some plain hot/warm water this really helps to relieve trapped wind! Hope you feel better!

Gallstones? Can be brought on by pregnancy

Thanks all

I've been having diarrhoea and have called 111 they have asked me to come in and see the out of hours gp

Fingers crossed it's just something treatable and baby is okay

If it is gas, then peppermint tea will sort it in no time. I didn't believe the hype, but it has saved me several times.

I'd go as far as to say if peppermint tea doesn't clear it then it's not gas.

annlee3817 · 06/02/2022 08:48

Might be something you're eating, I find that some foods that usually suit me, really don't in pregnancy, so I have to reassess what I'm eating and look out for trigger foods. Hope you get it sorted

hfm123 · 06/02/2022 21:29

I've been to the out of hours doctor.

I've had stomach flu, a stomach virus but luckily I'm not dehydrated bad news is they can't do much but advise me to take paracetamol and rest.

Doctor said the stomach flu won't impact the baby.

Thank you for all your comments. Hopefully I can sleep tonight without being Ill.
