19 weeks - felt movement and now nothing

Hi,
I'm 19w1d and over a week ago I started to feel movement. Well I'm 99% sure that's what it was - like butterflies but a bit more like a small jab too. This was happening for a couple of days and now nothing for the last week.
I called the triage and they said they wouldn't check anything until after 20 weeks so not to worry (also my 20w scan is late so not having for another fortnight).

Is this normal? Should I be worried?
Is there a chance I didn't feel movement and it just hasn't started yet? Should I try and get a private scan?

This is my first, in case that wasn't super obvious!

Yes, you could have felt something else. Or it may be that baby has just moved into a more difficult to feel position. They’re so little still at 19 weeks that if they turn around and start kicking towards your back, for instance, you might not feel it. Any idea if your placenta is anterior or posterior? I was told about this at the 12 wk scan with both mine but apparently sonographers don’t always record this info so you might not know.

This is pretty standard. I felt movements around this point maybe for a day or two then they stopped for a bit. They aren't concerned really until 24-28 weeks I think as baby will still hide away. Some people don't even feel movements until after their 20 week scan.

Hi @cathy1987101! I'm 19 weeks tomorrow and like you I've had a couple of flutters, but it's very inconsistent, and I'm not 100% sure it was the baby I felt at all! I think at this stage they're just too small to have much impact when they're wriggling about in there, so the movements are likely to be unpredictable and inconsistent. I'm not worried at all for that reason (and I'm a worrier). It's my first too, after several losses, and I'm trying now to take each day as it comes!

A reassurance scan helped me at 16 weeks, so if you can't hang on for another fortnight until your 20 week scan, I'd recommend it for peace of mind.

I was the same at 19 weeks. Had a scan (I'm based in Ireland so maybe they have different rules) but essentially I have an anterior placenta and she had moved behind the placenta and was happy out.
Try and have an ice cold sugary drink to see if that helps but try not to worry too much. At 19 weeks baby is still not consistent and plenty of room for them to move x

Teaandcrumpets95 · 05/02/2022 20:53

This was me and it really worried me at the time- the movements were so slight and inconsistent a pattern could not be established that early x
Proper movements and kicks came in around 23-24 weeks and now at 28+ 5 I can feel and see a range of strong movements consistently throughout the day and night x
I know it's so much easier said than done but try not to worry it's likely fine and movements will come in more with time 😊

Thanks everyone for the reassurance.lSmile

I actually started bleeding last night so went to triage. Baby does have a heartbeat still which is good but internal exam didn't show what bleeding was so have to wait for scan to see placenta.

Worrying about one thing and then something different happens. Fingers crossed all is well.

@cathy1987101 what was your outcome please? I’m in the exact same position as you, except with twins.
They can’t find a cause for my bleeding and I can no longer feel kicks at 18.5 weeks, however was feeling them before.
Babies are fine apparently, checked 2 days ago. I’ve got a follow up scan Tuesday. But no kicks and bleeding again is worrying me x

cathy1987101 · 01/06/2025 07:45

@Obrmi’m currently sat here with a healthy (if noisy) toddler so all was fine :)
i also had bleeding a few weeks after this post too and same as you, no cause. It’s so hard not to worry, I feel for you. I had so many private scans to settle my mind in the end (same with my second).
do you mean you’re bleeding again since being checked a couple of days ago? If so, it might be worth going to triage again for peace of mind.

Very normal. At that stage they can move into a different position which means you don’t feel them. I had this around the same time (can’t remember exactly when maybe a little later). That said if you feel worried always just go in, even if they say don’t!

Sorry I didn’t see your last post. That must have been stressful but so glad heartbeat is fine :)

Thanks @cathy1987101 for replying, you have eased my mind. Congratulations on your healthy baby, I hope mine turns out ok.

Yes I bled again since they were last checked about 2 days ago, but it was a like old blood, more brownish, so I was hoping it was from speculum they did when investigating a cause. Haven’t had any more of that since last night. Waiting for a scan Tuesday.

I know what you mean! I’ve had 7 scans and they are only 18.5 weeks. The anxiety is awful.
