Nauseous but so thirsty!

Wondering if anyone had any tips for quenching my insatiable thirst! I'm 11w4d and the nausea is slowly but surely easing, but every afternoon I suffer from a thirst that I just cannot quench. Water/ squash makes me nauseous, absolutely can't stomach tea or coffee, black earl grey tea worked for a few days but no longer, not a fan of lemonade/ fanta etc at the best of times but willing to give it a go if people say it works! I have always been addicted to diet coke but have been trying to limit intake (caffeine), but even that makes me nauseous! 😩

I will be mentioning it to my midwife at my 1st scan next week just in case it's a symptom of anything more sinister, but any pointers in the meantime would be much appreciated!!

Ice lollies?

BertieBotts · 05/02/2022 15:52

Cheap lemonade was the best for me.

Or what about something sour like lime cordial?

Peppermint or ginger tea? Either hot or cold?

BertieBotts · 05/02/2022 15:52

(If you do it cold, steep it in a jug, chill and add lots of sugar.)

Caffeine free diet coke?

DottieDam · 05/02/2022 17:57

I couldn't drink water in my first trimester. I think we have a collection of about 10 squashes for me to try and see if I could handle. I did find some I could stomach for a day or two then it could be a no. Eventually I could handle water with an ice cube (but as my symptoms subsided). I really craved fizzy drinks even though I don't normally drink them, I think it was a lack of salt. I was able to drink electrolyte s which helped.

If fizzy juices work then I personally wouldn't worry too much. It should get easier as you get into your second trimester!

Get checked for gestational diabetes

What dipdye said.

Fizzy water worked for me - cannot stand it normally! I sometimes added a juice I could stomach. You can get caffeine free diet coke. Also different temperature water worked for me - could only manage it lukewarm! Hope it soon subsides for you ... x

Fizzy was the only way I could drink through the sickness. I vommed around 20 times a day the whole way through both pregnancies.

Porridgeislife · 05/02/2022 18:14

Sparkling water worked for me too. At one point we had the supermarket deliver 12L of the stuff a week. Occasionally I’d tip a J20 into a pint glass and top it up with sparkling water if feeling particularly grim.

Now well into my second trimester and thankfully back to plain water, tea and coffee.

Ice lollies, lemon or the lemonade ones
Juice diluted with still or fizzy water
Try a straw?
Lemon barley
Bitter lemon (seeing a theme here?!)
Lemon and ginger tea (hot or cold)

WildPoppy · 05/02/2022 19:21

Ooh ice lollies could work!

Also not usually a fan of fizzy water but thinking maybe with some squash in... I too have a collection of squashes which I have slowly gone off one by one 😂

J20 another possibility! Has got me thinking about orange juice with ice cubes...

(usually can't bear orange juice but suddenly can't stop thinking about it 😂)

Will be off to the shops in the morning I think! Thank you for all the suggestions.

I was so ill throughout my first pregnancy and my only relief came from sipping diet coke 24/7. I'm less sick this time but my food/ drink aversions are through the roof! I don't want to complain as I feel so well in comparison to last time, but it's so tiring having to put so much thought into each meal/ drink.

Try a load of ice in different drinks and see if any of them work!

WildPoppy · 05/02/2022 19:50

Currently drinking a previously rejected squash with lots of ice and a straw and so far so good! 😁

Also liking the idea of bitter lime type drinks.

Will definitely be paying the supermarket another visit tomorrow! I seem to be visiting Tesco daily at the moment, wandering the aisles and waiting for something that I can stomach to jump out at me 😂

Try orange juice with ice and diluted with v cold water (I usually do 2/3 orange and 1/3 water) and it's way more refreshing
