Bloodshot eyes in pregnancy?

Hi, I'm 16 weeks and just developed really bloodshot eyes. I wear contact lenses but it isn't affected by that, and it isn't from being tired. Have had it about a week. Have heard it could be something to do with diabetes, has anyone heard of this or experienced it??

Hi Evl i also wear contacts and am 35 weeks pregnant. From about 12 to 20 weeks i couldnt wear them because it felt like i was putting glass in my eyes, i don't know about diabetes but i know a lot of women get very sensitive eyes during pregnancy. I went back to wearing them with no further problems, hope this helps. x

My eyes are more sensitive during pregnancy and I couldn't wear contact lenses.

I certainly wouldn't wear contact lenses while my eyes were bloodshot - that's not a good idea.

Thanks for this. When I don't wear my lenses it doesn't seem to make any difference to them, and my contact lenses are comfortable to wear, it is just that I have very visible red veins in my eyes.

Me too, I thought it was spending too long on MN! (I don't wear contacts btw)

Bloodshot eyes can be caused by the eyes drying out - looking at a computer screen and contact lenses can be the cause of this.

EvL - you should contact your midwife - I don't know if it's a symptom of diabetes but your midwife will be able to advice you on this.
