Currently 40+4 with DC2, DC1 arrived at 40+2 so of course I now feel massively overdue 🙄
Had a sweep yesterday afternoon and have been losing bits of brown mucus and had a few tightening last night but through the night nothing!

I had sweep at 39 +2 baby born 39+4
Baby 2 sweep at 40 born 40+1 and baby 3 had sweep at 38 and born at 38+2. So I'd say they work for me! Good luck

Traumdeuter · 02/02/2022 07:28

Sweep on due date, baby born three days later. I had intermittent tightening/cramps from about an hour after the sweep so it seems connected.

(Also the midwife who did the sweep came to do the first home visit & just grinned and said “told you it would work!”)

LouLou198 · 02/02/2022 07:30

Yes, had one at 40 weeks, dd arrived 36 hours later.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 02/02/2022 07:34

No, didn't work for me.

winterbabyrose · 02/02/2022 08:14

I am thinking/hoping the exact same. I had my first sweep yesterday too (I am 40+3 today) and had a few cramps last night and into the early hours. But then nothing since 3am ish. Been losing teeny tiny bits of brown mucus since then too, but nothing major. Fingers crossed something happens today for the both of us!!

annlee3817 · 02/02/2022 08:17

I had mine at 40 weeks, 2-3cm dilated, could stretch to 4cm, had a bloody show, waters bulging, labour started at 40+5, stubborn baby

mummyh2016 · 02/02/2022 09:35

Yep, with DD my waters went at 37+6, no contractions so had a sweep and sent home. Contractions started within a couple of hours. Ended up having another one 8 hours later as I wasn't dilating any further, DD was born more or less 24 hours after the first sweep. With DS was given a sweep at my 38 week appointment, MW said I was already 3cm dilated, head was engaged, was low and waters were bulging. I woke up with contractions the following morning so around 16 hours later and he was born approx 4 hours later at 38+2.

Notevenabit · 02/02/2022 09:36

No, didn’t work for me at 40 weeks or at 40+10.

Ineedacoffee21 · 02/02/2022 13:07

Thanks everyone think it’s just hit and miss!
Only had a few stronger braxton hicks so far and not very regular at all so I’m not feeling hopeful.

Good luck @winterbabyrose ! Hopefully something happens soon, keep us posted :)

@Ineedacoffee21 how you getting on OP?

I lost my bloody show yesterday morning but absolutely f all since!! Getting me so down that nothing seems to be happening (40+4 today)!

ChloeHel · 03/02/2022 09:05

I had my first sweep at 39 weeks and nothing then second on 39+6 and she arrived 24 hours later :)

Dumbledoressister · 03/02/2022 11:43

I was consultant led and he said sweeps were entirely pointless. If you were going into labour soon then they might speed it up a tiny bit but they wouldn't start labour if you weren't heading that way anyway. No harm in trying though!

EverydayIsPJday · 03/02/2022 11:54

No, I had three (which is above the usual limit of 2) but none worked. Ds was born exactly 42 weeks 😡

Isonthecase · 03/02/2022 12:16

Mine only worked once I was overdue already unfortunately! Had them for 3 weeks second time round 🙄

Sleepyquest · 03/02/2022 12:46

I have one today. I need it to work. Upset to read your post @Dumbledoressister 🤣

MooChops89 · 03/02/2022 12:59

I had 5 sweeps from 37 weeks (I'm a midwife myself and my colleague was happy to do them) as I was hoping for a VBAC. 1-2cm dilated by the last one, they gave me the odd cramp and I lost my plug but other than that they did bugger all, sorry Grin baby came at 40+2 and I think the sweeps had nothing to do with it, they come when they're ready!

Agree with PP that they can help speed things up if labour is starting anyway but won't do much on their own. I was desperate and willing to try anything though!

Mimba1 · 03/02/2022 22:40

Didn't do anything for me - ended up with an induction. And they were really painful! Wouldn't do it again I have to say.

Justbecause88 · 03/02/2022 22:48

I had one at 40+2, 40+5 then 41+2. Went into labour around 9hours after my 3rd sweep. Not sure if it did the trick or if it was going to happen naturally or not!!

Dumbledoressister · 04/02/2022 11:45

@Sleepyquest sex, wine and a bath worked for me at 38 weeks Grin
