How long to get first appt?

Hi everyone,

I did the self referral last Monday and it said I would get a response in 10 working days. I’m panicking a bit because I am further along than I thought. I had a private scan after some spotting which puts me at 12 weeks today.

I know the combined screening needs to be done by 13+6. I don’t want to be a pita (my fault for registering late) but should I chase the hospital or wait until 10 days has passed? 10 days would be Friday/ next Monday (12+6). I guess I’m wondering if they are likely to reply within 10 days or have a backlog with covid…

Thanks!

You absolutely must chase!

You need to chase.

Really? Ok will try to contact them today. I feel so embarrassed and hate chasing :(

Definitely chase, if you can't find a contact number for your community midwives then contact PALS at the hospital you plan to give birth at.

Thanks @mummyh2016 I was planning to contact the hospital (not sure how). Should I contact the community team instead?

@Rrrob to be honest I would do both! I was in the same boat (not as urgent as yours though as I wasn't as far gone), my GP surgery admitted they couldn't get hold of the community midwives to chase up my appointment. I found a number online for them and left a voicemail and emailed PALS, I was called back within a couple of hours with an appointment - I don't know if it was the voicemail or PALS that sorted it.

Contact your GP and ask for the midwife linked to the surgery's contact information

Well, I think I was worrying for no reason. I’ve just had an email link to open an account for the maternity notes app that the hospital uses.

Thanks everyone :)

How much further along are you? The first midwife appt is a booking appointment at 10 weeks ish and some areas don't book you for the combined screening blood tests and 12 week scan until that point.

So definitely worth calling tomorrow to say you've been given a due date that is earlier than you thought so you can get that screening test booked in asap.
