Episiotomy

Hi,
I'm 1 week post episiotomy with internal and external stitches.
The area is still so painful and I keep getting shooting pains when I sit a certain way or move too quick.
The area looks clean but can still bleed at times.

Has anyone had similar and if so, how long can I expect the pain to last or the wound to heal?

Thank you

Mine was tender for maybe a couple of weeks. Honestly it's all a blur now. Light exercise and especially pelvic floor exercises (if you can! Midwife told me this) encourage blood flow and healing to the area.

I used to roll up a towel and sit on it and use the boppy feeding pillow to sit on! But your body has been through a lot so it will take a bit of time to heal

I used tucks pads and they really helped with the pain. Can also put maternity pad in the freezer. I hope the pain eases x

I remember the pain well 😭
It took a couple of weeks for me to feel no pain at all.
Are you keeping on top of painkillers? I found it I slacked even half an hour it made a massive difference how much pain I had.
Take it easy but as pp try do pelvic floor exercise as I was caught short afew times post birth by not doing them!

I also remember it well. Try a warm bath with some lavender essential oil (mix 10 drops with a teaspoon of milk, then pour into the bath) honestly, it’s a game changer

I’d say at least a few weeks too and like a previous poster said I used to sit on cushions!
Hope you feel more comfortable soon x

Thank you everyone for your recommendations!
I'll definitely give them a try - it's just so uncomfortable!
All pain fades away when I look at my new baby though ☺️

Paracetamol every 4 hours, ibuprofen every 4 hrs, spaced so you take something every 2 hrs.

A sitz bath off amazon with lavender and tea tree oil.

Squirty water bottle with warm water and lavender for when you have a wee.

Rest rest rest, don’t push yourself too hard.

It took me 2 weeks to be able to walk any further than around the house, but by week 5 I had a sit on my horse and by week 7 was gently riding again. It feels like forever in those first few weeks.

Take it easy x

And congratulations Smile Flowers

Few weeks for it to heal so I didn't feel it/have pain moving around etc. Alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen works best. I have to say it took about 9 months for the inner part to not be so sensitive around the scar. I had an infection early on but on the inner part so not as easy to see, and was missed by the HV, and that can push the recovery time up massively so keep an eye out for this. GP refused to check but recommended salt baths Hmm
