Had booking in appointment with G.P but have no contact number or any contact with midwife. Not sure when/if this will happen? Not overly concerned about anything but if i was most people say contact your midwife. I'm 12 1/2 weeks. Suppose i'll ask at next anti-natal appointment (which is also with G.P)

Different areas have different ways of working- I've never seen my GP as routine in pregnancy (working on 2nd one now), only to get prescriptions that my midwife can't give me. I get the impression GPs get paid more if you actually see them, but probably its mroe your GP has an interest in pregnancy (mine certainly does not!!) How long are until your next check? Have you been given all the info on screening tests ( bloods, scans, etc) in your area if you are interested in that sort of thing? Only asking as often there's a big gap between visits around 16 weeks, around here they usually would next want to see you around 19-24 wks, which is too late for many screening checks if you are interested.
To find out more, ring your local (or where you intend to deliver) hospital and ask for the midwife led unit or delivery ward, they'll be able to tell you more/put you in touch with someone who can tell you.
And I'm sure lots of folk here can give you better advice!!
Good luck!

thanks mumofk. Been booked in for dating scan next week, no info on blood screening etc. Will see G.P at around 15 weeks so will ask him. He is great but seems a little disorganised. Thanks for the great advice, will ask at scan also as that is at the hospital i will be having baby in.

I didn't have one all through my preg with ds and am now 35 weeks with no. 2 and still midwife-less!

At your dating scan you might not see anyone other than the sonographer - as one of those type people I wouldn't have a clue as to how you'd find out there and then which community midwife team you'd come under- that's why I'd say ring up and ask for MWL unit or labour ward, or maternity daycare unit, if your hospital has one! However, thinking more probably antenatal clinic may be able to help more... our reception is really vague but that is definately specific to our hospital, I'm sure other places would be more helpful, probably better informed sonographers too!
mumofk-a 2 yr old who has been in bed 2 hours and is still refusing to sleep- grrrrr!

Thank mumofk will do that. Good luck with the 2 year old, i work with kids but haven't had the pleasure of one of my own! Have all the joys to come!
