Sizing scans - has anyone had one/been booked in/did it change anything?

Just wondered if anyone else has been booked in for extra scans to assess size? I had a large baby second time around although this wasnt known until after homebirth delivery. This time m/w has advised extra scans which I have booked at about 18 and 30 something weeks. Has anybody else had experience of these, ie can they really tell how big ie heavy baby is and presumably then my plans for homebirth could go out window.
Has anyone else had previous large baby.

I had a sizing scan, at which they told me ds2 would be 8lbs at birth. He was 8lb 1oz, fairly accurate i would say!

had one with ds1 too and they were right. They worry about my pelvis size and the size of the baby. im not booked in this time because i managed to give birth to ds2 so they are not worried.

I had 2 scans as the m/w thought I was way to big and the baby would be 8-9lbs. 1st scan showed all okay and baby average size. 2nd scan picked up major prob and baby born that night - 6lb 12.5oz. Scan said he would be 7lb 12oz, 4 hours before he was born.

Thankyou for your messages scorpio and NAB3wishesfor2008. SEems like the scans were pretty helpful and accurate then. (sorry I meant to write at 28 not 18 weeks above)
