Everything tastes bland

Currently 17 weeks, had pretty bad vomiting and nausea throughout my 1st trimester. It seemed to settle by week 14 and I've enjoyed being able to eat without throwing up. The issue is I used to love food so much, like savour every bite and get so excited. Now everything tastes quite bland. I eat but it's a bit of a chore and I find it hard to know what to eat because I'm not craving anything at all. If I get too hungry I feel sick again but that's quite rare.

I've found things online about food aversions and cravings but this just feels like the absence of anything at all. There's no bad taste, things just don't taste amazing like they used to. Has anyone else had this happen? Does it go away?

How long have you had this? Maybe also do a COVID test (PCR, not lateral flow)

I've had this (and still do 6 weeks on). Not during either of my pregnancies though, but due to covid. I agree with PP, you need a PCR.

Losing the ability to taste is a big covid symptom because it's linked to smell.

This was the only way I knew I'd gotten covid & had no other symptoms.

Oh I can taste! It’s just all a bit sad rather than fireworks. I can also smell. I will still take a PCR but I’ve done so many tests recently and haven’t really been out of the house so I don’t think it’s that. Thanks!

My taste isn't completely gone from covid OP. Some things taste distant, like the taste equivalent of seeing it on the horizon if I squint, a small selection of random things I can't taste at all, and most other things taste bland and/or more dull than usual. Some flavours have fully returned. My taste is good enough overall to momentarily forget what has happened day to day. There have been a number of occasions where I've commented to DH that a particular food has really gone down hill/is disappointing/bland etc, and as I say the words I do a mental facepalm of "Doh! Covid!". The symptom guidance isn't just loss of taste, but altered sense of taste too.

No covid although maybe I've had it and haven't realised. My doctor says this is just the residual effect of having been so unwell in the first trimester that food is still a bit off putting. I'm not sure but I would love to hear if anyone else has experienced this!
