Psoriasis and pregnancy

Hi, has anyone had problems with restricted blood flow to baby during pregnancy because of psoriasis? I had my 20 week scan today as well as doppler and my blood flow to baby wasn't good because I have a psoriasis. They said baby may have to be delivered early. Just wanted to know other people's experience of this x

I don't have severe psoriasis, but in my first pregnancy uterine artery dopplers were high. In the end I had pre-eclampsia. This time around, blood flow is just fine, and no signs of pre-eclampsia. Psoriasis is also in near full remission for the moment, which is a nice change from what it usually is this time of year.

Mum and sister have far worse psoriasis than I do and never had any issues with blood flow to baby. Are you absolutely sure they said it's due to your psoriasis? I've never heard of this before.

I had blood flow problems in 4 pregnancies and no one has ever suggested that it could be in any way related to psoriasis which I have.

Yes so from my very first midwife appointment at 8 weeks they asked about immune diseases i said yes I have psoriasis so they put me down as high risk and said I'll need a doppler scan later in pregnancy which I did yesterday. The only reason they did it was because I have psoriasis. I'm seeing a specialist consultant who said its because I have an immune disease.

Following with interest as I have nail psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and am planning a pregnancy.

Do you take any meds for your psoriasis like a pregnancy safe biologic?

Mummy1992x · 27/01/2022 08:42

No I came off all of my meds about 5 or 6 years ago. I was on Methotrexate and it made me so ill I decided to give my body a rest from everything. X

I have psoriasis and wasn't aware of this, the midwife has never ever said of any possible impacts either. The only thing i was told is that my psoriasis would get worse due to the hormones (which it has) but i'm certainly not high risk or anything like that. I did have to take aspirin and stronger folic acid but i think that's due to my age and BMI

Very strange. I mean I guess it makes sense as its an immune disease and it is what it is I just was hoping I would find someone who has gone through the same. So worrying. I take aspirin too because it's supposed to help blood flow to baby which they put me on from 12 weeks because I have psoriasis so probably same reason you're on it. I'm glad they made me high risk to he honest as they are keeping a close eye on me and I would never have had this doppler scan otherwise and found out there was a problem as they predicted there could be. So I don't doubt what they are saying just surprised others haven't heard about this.
