Hi,

I'm 29w pregnant and going to be a FTM. Hoping I can get some suggestions on what kind of sleeping arrangements I can look into for my newborn and for the later stages without having to spend a fortune.

Initially thought of going for a bedside crib & cot ( www.tuttibambini.com/cozee-xl-bedside-crib-cot-oak-and-charcoal.html ), where I can move my baby girl to the nursery room to
the cot after 6 months, but now I'm thinking it can be used only until 18 months ? But if I go for a basic bedside crib for initial 6 months and then a cot which can be turned into toddler bed (something from IKEA like SUNDVIK may be), we can have a longer usage and less expensive one.

Has anyone used IKEA cots and if so up to what age can they be used ?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for crib and cot bed recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best cot beds and best cribs pages with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their little ones. We hope you find the articles useful.

@Pinksworthy90 definitely consider second hand for the Tutti, I often see them on fb marketplace. I got mine for 1/3 cost new and just got a mattress, it was in perfect condition and still is after my son used it too.

@HotToddyColdSauvignon My DD was in her Moses basket on a stand at the side of our bed for almost 8 months. She slept beautifully in it but then transitioned well into a cotbed in the next room.
She was 7lb at birth but not a large baby so had plenty of room in the basket.

We're due our second (predicted to be huge) baby in a couple of weeks and the only reason we're not using a Moses basket again is I'm worried my toddler might pull it over accidentally. We're going for a Snuzpod this time. We moved house since the first baby and there's room for the Snuz in our room, there was only room for the basket in our old bedroom.

Is the Sundvik available online? It wasn't when we looked and we went in store and asked about it and someone told us it had been discontinued!

We have a tutti bambini cozee air for the next to me bed and have a cot/cot bed for the nursery now.

@HotToddyColdSauvignon

I feel like I’m asking a stupid question Blush

Why can’t the baby be in a Moses basket next to my bed on a stand type thing and then around 5/6 months they go into their cot bed thing in their nursery?

Am I missing something terrible?

They can! But you would usually have to get a longer Moses basket. Our daughter stayed in her Moses basket for six months. It was schnuggle brand and they are extra long. Fully recommend.

Not much to add other than that my newborn would not sleep in the chicco - too big, she felt lost and helpless. As soon as we switched to a Moses basket, she slept soundly, as she felt much more snug and cosy. Luckily I didn't buy the chicco, as that could have been an expensive mistake (it was a hand me down with a new mattress)

@Stade197 Thats exactly the one I'm looking at and its for £89 at Smyths. Good to know you found it useful too, that helps.

@StampOnTheGround The grey one in SUNDVIK is available in stores in our place, but not for online delivery. The white is Out of stock. Oh, I hope it is not going to be discontinued.

@OtiMama Brilliant ! DH is hard to convince for the marketplace products, he is too fussy about second-hands. I will however check if I can get something like a nearly new one. I know marketplace will have so many options.

@StampOnTheGround If you don't mind me asking, which cot/cot bed did you go for in the end ?

It is really nice, i got it because on the reviews people preferred it to expensive brands

Its easy to set up and the side unzips for easy access to baby from the bed. My baby is in a cot in his own room now but because i love the bedside crib so much ive stored it away incase i have another baby

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 26/01/2022 12:42

Ahhh… so the trick is an extra long Moses basket Grin
Thanks @miltonj

@Pinksworthy90 I'd make sure you grab the grey if you think it's what you want! 😊

Of course, we ended up getting the mamas and papas atlas 3 piece furniture set (completely different price range to the IKEA stuff 😂). It had been what I'd originally seen and fallen for but I thought the IKEA cot looked decent and piecing that furniture together would have saved us £200/300 at least.
